New Hawken style sidekick

Have a friend that makes muzzleloaders make me a 54 Hawken style rifle in 54. 1 in 60 twist barrel for round balls.

We are both in Colorado at the moment and he presented me with the gun as a surprise! And I was! What a beautiful and awesome gun! He even brought all the accessories to shoot so we did!

Real black in ffg at 85 grains and 230 gr round balls. He set up the target at 50 yards and I was a little worried we should have started closer but shouldn’t have been ?

First shot is at 11 o’clock and just out of black. Second is at 4 o’clock in the nine ring. 3rd at 9 o’clock and in the nine ring. The other two holes are from my friend shooting.

Pretty awesome shooting rifle! Got me excited about shooting again. Can’t wait to give a full session at the range and then hunt something with it.
