I'm sure I was in the tank for Romney as much as anyone in this state, and I admit to being very disappointed with the results last night. However, I appreciated the graciousness Romney displayed in his concession speech, and also the graciousness that President Obama displayed during his acceptance speech. It made me think of all the nice people that I met yesterday while waiting in line almost two hours to vote, even knowing that most of them we're probably not voting for my guy.
All that goodwill ended when Brokaw came back on and starting labeling Romney voters as voting for the party of racists, bigots, sexists, homophobes, etc. I find that incredibly insulting. Likewise, I'm sure those who voted for President Obama are incredibly insulted by everything the conservative talking heads have called them (including stupid).
As Americans who love this country for what it has been and continues to be, I think we all should take a step back and look at what we're doing by continuing to drive this wedge between ourselves.
I don't know if it will last, but so far post election, the President is saying that he is willing to work with both sides to address our economic problems. He is exactly right.
I think there is much more to be gained by both sides coming together based on our common decency than to follow the lead of the talking head types who profit in stirring up conflict.
Our kids and grand kids deserve better than this.
