This will be my first HAC. My wife and I will be busy this year, we both drew 45-1 elk tags and 119-1 deer tags in our home state of Wyoming. The elk tag excites us a little more than the deer tag. We have been hunting 45 during the archery season for the last 4 years. We have taken a number of bulls but the 370 plus Bulls we see every year have eluded us. We have a pretty good understanding of what the elk do so hopefully a taxidermy bill is in our future. It will be a great hunt none the less with the amount of bulls in the unit we won't be bored. The deer hunt has a little more mystery surrounding it. We hear mixed reviews, however, it sounds like there is no shortage of animals. Scouting will begin this weekend in the deer unit learning the roads and boundaries. Crossing our fingers and putting in the work, maybe we will be rewarded with mature animals of both species. Good luck to all, more to come....

So I have had the same ol' 7mm STW for about 20 years. There was actually nothing wrong with it other than trying to find powder these days. Early last winter I decided i wanted to build a new light weight hunting rig. I went with a medium weight 26in Shilen barrel in 7mm rem. mag. I sure like the 7mm's for deer and elk. Ive never owned a Vortex scope so I opted for the 4-16 HST. I am sure it is more scope than I will ever use. Long range for me is 400yds! A custom stock and some trigger work to finish it off. Hopefully its a shooter. And hopefully i get to put it to work!

Well, the first of three special tags turned out very good. We were able to connect on one of the bucks we found during the summer. it took some patience and quite a few miles, but in the end he zigged when he should have zagged and the rest is history. We green scored him at the taxidermist and he nets 80 7/8. He may not have been the biggest in the unit but it was a very fun hunt and I got to share it with my beautiful wife and youngest daughter. Here are a few shots.

I have been slacking on keeping up to date with my posts. I have been busy with last minute chores and as much scouting time as possible. Spent some time in our elk unit over the second half of the summer. We didnt have as much time as we would have liked due to trying to complete the landscaping on our new home. We also found time to locate two very good antelope bucks to keep an eye on. Here a few shots from our elk area. Wyoming is a special place and we are blessed to call it home.
