Massive avalanche overwhelms group of snowmobilers on Utah mountain

Hunter Penrose (inset) was among a group of snowmobilers that was caught in an avalanche while riding in the Uinta Mountains in Utah on Saturday. The harrowing event was caught on film.

I know 3 guys killed on snow machines. 2 in avalanches and 1 drowned. I consider that pretty weird.

Our snow has got to be super sketchy. It dried out after earlier base, then piled on top. ID be scared to be near some of it. Suprisesd there hasn't been more of this

There is one mistake made in these events And we are seeing them repeated over and over whenever more than one person is buried.
There were multiple people caught because there were multiple people on the avalanche path. The best choice if you decide to place yourself at risk is one person at a time with the rest watching from a safe location. No way more than one gets caught this way.

I never heard what released it. Probably high marking and that is why he was filming. Not much time to run when they release.

The intermountain snow pack right now is the most dangerous snow pack in most peoples history.

14 people have died in avalanches since Feb. 1. It's the highest number recorded in a seven-day period since the National Avalanche Center started tracking deaths.
