I recently started a pack llama business in Southern Utah (Backcountry Logistics) so I figured I would start a thread to share some pictures and stories from our hunting trips, along with some info about llamas.

I'm going to have a busy fall with a lot of hunting. I have a Wyoming deer tag and a late season Utah LE Muzzleloader Deer tag. My brother also drew a Wyoming deer tag, Utah Dedicated Hunter deer tag, and a LE Book Cliffs elk tag. We plan on using our pack llamas on every one of these hunts so we should have a lot of pictures to share!

If you would like to rent llamas for your own hunting/fishing/hiking trip or if you have any questions about llamas, check out our website at www.RentPackLlamas.com or give me a call/text (Jason - 435.256.7882).

Our first trip of the year wasn't a hunting/scouting trip. I've been wanting to fish the Boulder Mountains for a few years now, so we decided to bring along the llamas for a 3 day trip. If you haven't had a chance to fish the Boulders yet I highly suggest you do. The fishing was great and the scenery was even more amazing. Here's a few pictures from our trip.

Our first hunting trip of the year was my brother's LE archery elk hunt. We hit the road the day before opening day, loaded up at the trailhead, and started the 8 mile hike into the backcountry. I had this same tag 3 years ago so we didn't worry about scouting it prior to the season. We had a good idea of where we wanted to go.

We found one nice 6 point bull on opening morning and decided to make a stalk, but we were never able to locate the bull once we got to where we had last seen him.

We weren't able to kill a bull on this trip, but we'll be back in a couple weeks once the bulls are starting to bugle.

While we were loading up camp to head home, I decided to do a short video on how to saddle a pack llama.

A couple weeks ago my dad and I headed into the Wyoming backcountry to hunt mule deer with my bow. We went on one scouting trip during June and saw a handful of good bucks. We got to the trailhead at 2am on Opening Day, and there we're any other trucks at the trailhead, so we thought we'd have the whole area to ourselves. Opening morning we loaded up the llamas with enough gear for 4 days and started the hike in. After the 9 mile hike in (3500ft elevation gain), we realized that there were a lot of people hunting that same area. We were kind of bummed, but we were still able to locate some good bucks.

After hunting for 3 days, we had to head home. I had a couple close encounters with some good bucks, but I wasn't able to get a shot off. I wasn't too worried about killing a buck on the archery hunt because are planning on heading back during the rifle hunt. Hopefully we will be able to kill some good bucks then.

Here is a nice buck that I was thinking about shooting all week. He looks very impressive from the side, but he is only about 20" wide, so I decided to pass.

Not a bad view! We were camped at 10,300ft.

I've finally found some time to post up some more pictures and stories... I've been very busy the last few weeks with a lot of hunts going on.

On Sept. 10th my brother Dustin, our friend Corey, and I headed into the Utah backcountry for the last week of Dustin's LE archery elk hunt. Up to this point, the bulls had been pretty silent with very little rutting activity. We knew that the last week of the hunt was going to be good though. Dustin and Corey headed in the day before me with two of the llamas, and I came in the next day with two other llamas.

One good thing about llamas is you can pack pretty much whatever you'd like, in this case, some raspberry filled donuts. If you've never had rasberry filled donuts 9 miles into the backcountry, you should try it. They AMAZING!! ha

We're were really lucky and found this awesome campspot. This was definitely one of the best campspots we've ever found in the backcountry.

After a couple missed encounters and missed shots with the longbow, Dustin and Corey were finally able to get it done on the last day of the hunt! Corey called this great 6x6 bull into 17 yards and Dustin put a good high lungs shot on him.

The llamas were loaded up on the pack out! Each llama had over 110lbs (which is a lot more than what we normally would carry). We typically try to keep their loads under 80lbs, but they handled the extra weight with no problems. We made the 8 mile hike out and didnt' have any issues.

The more we've used our llamas this year, the more impressed we've been with them. They've handed every situation that we've put them through.
