A couple years ago, i posted up a thread about poker and i mentioned our little $40. buy in, dealer picks the game, $1. limit except $2. on the last card, game. We play every other week, either a Fri or Sat Night, all winter long. Well the host of this game bought a motor home and had been traveling for the past 6 weeks. We finally played again tonight and it sure felt good to be back again, playing, telling jokes, and laughing with the gang! It doesn't hurt either that i usually can beat the game. I won a bit over $60. tonight.

A bunch of guys posted up stories of their own home games or just of Poker in general. How about it, any big winners or bad beat stories to tell, What's Doing. :)

Joey, we play every day at lunch time at work. Usually 6-8 of us in the break room. We tell stories, lie a lot, cuss each other out, and generally have a pretty good time. It's a good diversion from work. I was up about $25 this week. I've lost that much before too.

Yep I like texas hold-em.
Spring Valley Lake has a game the first friday of the month down here, I haven't been to it this year(been to busy) but last year made the final round of 16 (2 tables left out of 32 tables)twice but never come close to winning it.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

I play Hold 'Em with the same group of 8 or 9 guys once or twice a month. Buy in is $200 with unlimited re-buys. Most that play are very knowledgeable about the game. We tell jokes, drink beer and play cards. It is an absolute escape from real life! I usually win...very rarely do I ever come out in the red. Some guys can come out with over a grand but that is rare. Most I've won is $550 but it really isn't about the money. It's about the good times.

I play in game with the old farmers around here between harvest and planting. Unlimited re-buys 200 dollar buy in. The best I have done is 1300.00, cleared 1100.00. The games have been slow with the host of the game being gone quite a bit this winter and spring. I got a call for a game in the works tonight, so we will see. The best I have done in a casino was in Tahoe over Thanksgiving a few years ago. I had a "wheel" straight flush and won 600+ in the pot plus a bonus 200+ from the casino. I sure like to play when the weather is poor like today.

Dang I need to find a home game with people like ya'll...of course it's illegal to play poker in Utah so I can't tell you any "true" stories but let me assure you, if I "did" ever play in a home game in Utah, most guys "wouldn't" buy in more than $20 which equals a lame game imo...

I like to play just to play but I definitely enjoy winning a ton of money more lol...

I suck at poker though so I usually lose all my money...just in case anyone here in Utah has a good home game and wants my free donation every week or two ;-)

>Liquor in the front and poker
>in the rear.

An old, old bar and restaurant down in historic old Auburn,Cali, the Shanghi, had a slogan on all their advertisements........Liquor in the front, Poker in the rear and Good eatin on the side.
This old place that originally was established after the gold rush of 1849 +, had the bar inside the front door and if you passed the bar you would go into the poker room. If, however, after entering into the bar, you turned left thru another door, you would be in the Chinese restaurant!
Like most things in the state, the power of political correctness eventually doomed the place. Too many people moving up north from LA and Frisco!

Z, uh huh! yeah right...I'll bet!! :)

NVB, I always did like that sign! :)

Cjboz, How awesome to pull a Straight Flush in a big live game. I've tried my hand a Casino poker and enjoy sitting down with a buy-in or two but have found that these guys play a heck of a lot more than i do. I've found that most of them, especially early in the day, are not there for the fun, they almost could be called pro's! The best time to buy a rack would be Fri or Sat night when the out of town guys show up looking for action!

Anyway, that must have been a nice hand to be involved in. I've only pulled a S.Flush in a Casino game once, holdem, and it made my night!

Wiz, "It's about the good times" Well, when you're talking the kinda buy-ins that you are, to me, the good times are welcome but it would most definitely also be about the money!

Gator, Tourney play is a great way to play poker with not a ;lot of money involved. As you've found out though, it's not easy to finish in the money. I've found though, that getting involved in a low buy-in tourney is about the best Bang for your dollar, that you can do if at Reno, Vegas, or a night out at the Casino!

Eel, Tough to pay for another Alaska trip playing for those stakes!v :) Poker, don't really matter the stakes, a game is a game. We all like to win!!

Thanks guys!!

About the time I retired my wife and her girlfriend was at one of the Indian casinos and the wife was playing I believe was "Texas hold them" when she drew a "Royal flush". When the female dealer turned the last card and knew my wife was holding a royal flush, my wife heard the dealer suck in her wind and call for the floor boss. Was worth $25,000.00 and paid for the kitchen remodel the wife wanted.

I love to play poker. Playing poker depends on luck. Sometimes, fortunately, you can win, but not always. Once I used some tricks in the game, these are marked cards. I often call these cards to focus rather than gambling. I like to make fun of my friends while playing. It's cool.

My most memorable hand was in a 3-6 game in Florida. I had Ace 6 and flop came AA6. About 6 guys stayed in and I slow played it, letting everyone else bet. Turn was another ace and river was a 6. I had 4 aces and the table had a full house. It kept getting raised and everyone was calling thinking the board was good. Won $124 on that hand.

We use to have a World Series of Poker every year on Super Bowl Sunday up until about 2 years ago. Use to have about 24 players when it all started about 30 years ago. Start at 11am and play until one player is left or 30 minutes before the game starts. $100.00 Buy in and usually 12-15 played the last couple of years but then became harder to get some to play. 1st, 2nd 3rd prizes, food, friends watch the game and have a day of fun.

After this past year, we could use a couple poker games right now.

I took a double take when I saw who started this thread, but then I saw it was from 2010. Sage always told me how he did in the latest poker game. Sure miss him.
