Please read and then contact your elected readers. I strongly feel that most all of you will see the danger in this proposed legislation!
In case you haven't heard, the Governor has proposed her so-called "Red Flag Law" in this year's legislative session. This bill has already passed the Senate and is scheduled to be heard today in its first committee in the House. Frankly, it has progressed so quickly most people aren't even aware of what it is.
Please take a few minutes to read this bill. It is a direct assault on your 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th amendment rights guaranteed by the US Constitution. Don't take my word for it. Read it! You can see the bill by clicking here:

There is a reason 31 of 33 Sherriff's are opposed to it!!! This bill would REQUIRE law enforcement officers to seize ALL OF YOUR FIREARMS based on an uncontested accusation made in front of a Judge. You would then be REQUIRED to appear before a court to PROVE YOUR INNOCENCE. If you were unable to prove your innocence to the satisfaction of the Judge you WILL lose your firearms for one year. At the end of that year, the person who accused you can renew their accusation and you WILL lose your firearms for another year (page 11 section E). This can go on forever. This bill only allows the person who's firearms were seized 1 hearing. No appeal, no trial, no lawyer, no nothing. You get what you get. This is the loss of your DUE PROCESS rights!! YOU ARE GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT!!
The time to act is here. If we don't stand up and fight the radicals in our legislature we stand to lose everything this country was built on. There are ways to fight crime and senseless violence but this bill will not do that. It will, however, disarm otherwise law-abiding citizens, result in innocent citizens being killed by police and result in police officers being killed by otherwise law-abiding citizens. Believe me, law enforcement officers across the state are as scared of this bill passing as you should be. They are being used as pawns in this radical agenda pushed by our Governor.
Think it can't affect you? Imagine what would happen if you had an anti sees you trapping or hunting and decided they felt "threatened" by you? All they would need to get is one law enforcement officer who agrees with their agenda and that officer could file and order against you. One sworn affidavit later you WILL lose your firearms for at least 15 days. What are the odds an officer would do this? I don't know, but if an officer refuses they are REQUIRED to file a "notice" that they are declining the request (page 5 section C). By doing this they (the officer) are giving up their protection from a civil lawsuit if something ever happens (page 17 section 14). Because of this officers are more likely than not to file these orders. They will be unwilling to "risk it" when it means they can be personally sued for damages if a tragic event occurs.
What will the Judge be looking at when they decide whether to seize your firearms? Well, one of the things will be:
I. any recent acquisition or attempts at acquisition of a firearm by the respondent (page 9 section I).
That's right, the fact that you've recently bought a firearm is a reason to suspect that you are an imminent danger to yourself or others.
Get assigned to the wrong Judge, don't get the subpoena or can't make it to court on the day assigned due to work or other obligations? One year loss of 2nd amendment rights! You don't have to be and won't be convicted of anything, you aren't even accused of committing a crime, yet you lose your 2nd amendment rights just like a violent felon would. You will be entered into the national crime database as a prohibited person and if you ever do get your guns back you are REQUIRED to go through another background check. Oh, and by the way, if your firearms are damaged by the police while they have them, you have no recourse. There is nothing you can do about it, period. Don't take my word for it. READ THE BILL.
