RE: In Town

I will be in the Tuson area from Thur.thru Sun. Does anyone have any advice on area's or things Wife and I can check out? Viewing Elk, maybe shed hunting, etc. This will be my 3rd year drawing in AZ.,(units 10 and 19a for Elk) but never been in the mountains here. Also is there a particular sporting goods store that everyone likes that I can check out?, only have Bass Pro and Cabela's here.

Elk country would be a long drive from Tucson, about 4 hours north to Flagstaff.
You might consider seeing the Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson, or maybe a visit to the observatories on Kitt Peak.
Lots of good coues whitetail country around Tucson, but finding sheds takes some hiking due to lower population densities. They have not dropped yet this year, either.
There is whitewater rafting on the Salt River between Show Low and Globe, northeast of Tucson. There are elk around ShowLow (probably still on winter range in the PJ nort of ShowLow.

Joe:

You had better hang around and be in Kingman on April 5th to take that Non-resident Hunter Ed class!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-12-08 AT 08:53PM (MST)[p]Thanks for all the good info. Is the 5th the only date for the hunter saftey course? I don't mind driving farther if need be.

I'll have to check out SCI. I have my first SCI book entry for Mule Deer catagory with muzzleloader this year, should be ranked 6th in that catagory. 190 5/8"

Thanks again

Sabino Canyon is a cool place to go and hike but the water might be a little cold for swimming. Tombstone isnt to far to the south and might be worth a trip. Desert museum and the wildlife museum ( both fairly close to each other) are both awesome. Mt Lemmon drive has great views.
