Richfield poaching case

One of our officers in southern Utah asked if I'd post a note here about a buck that was poached in or near Richfield within the past week.

If you have any information, please let us know so we can catch the person who did this. (Call the DWR UTiP Hotline at 1-800-662-3337 or Conservation Officer Branden Davis at 435-979-2907.)

Any pictures of the rack, or deer when he was alive.
That will help hunters who see the rack at someone's place.

AMY I READ THE WHOLE POST. ONE PART SAID THE DWR HAS CAUGHT 863 BAD GUYSIN 2011. WHAT PERCENT OF POACHING CASES DO YOU THINK THE DWR KNOWS ABOUT.I WAS TOLD ONCE THAT THEY ONLY KNOW ABOUT 30 %. IS THAT CLOSE?

No worries, STTM. ;-) And I agree: we want them caught as soon as possible.

I wrote to one of the officers working this case and asked him your question. He wrote back: "We do not know where the buck came from, so we do not have pictures of it alive. What we are looking for is DNA evidence to connect the antlers to the carcass, along with talking to our suspects. We are asking the residents of Richfield for information leading to the person who shot and dropped the carcass. If they have information on who owns the ATV and trailer or saw them driving one around, that would be great."

Good question, elkun. I've forwarded it to one of our officers here in Salt Lake. I'll follow up when I hear something.

Amy if DWR has the rack and post a picture of it, must local hunters will have seen it(buck alive) and can tell what area of the county it came from, at least it narrow's the area,s to look Good luck.

Thanks for following up, Gator. Unfortunately, the poacher removed the antlers from the skull before we found the carcass.

so all you got is a headless body, Put up some poster's about the buck being take in such and such area(where he was found) and if anyone has pictures of a GOOD buck in that area please post a copy of said buck, Now if that buck isn't being seen no more, It could be your headless body buck, Lots of paperwork and lots of follwup But it is a way to narrow down which buck was taken by the poachers.
