My grandpa has a rifle that was given to him by his father and he wondered if it has any monitary value. here is a description;
.32 cal
single shot
short forearm
octogonal barrell

inscriptions:
(on top of barrell) E. Remington & sons. ilion. n.y.
(side of breech) patents may 3, 1804, may 7, june 11, nov 12, dec 24, dec 31, 1872, sep 9, 1873
(trigger guard) 10529

Any info appreciated,
Andy

Andy;

From your description it appears that it is a Remington Model-4 or model-6. Both are single shots made on the rolling block action. both models were introduced in 1901 and dropped from production in 1933.
Due to you stating that it had a short forearm, I'm inclined to say it is the Model-6, the model-4 had a regular lenght forearm. Used value in good condition is around 225-250 bucks.
