Satellite Farm-Datil

I was down near Datil a while back and remember a large satellite field. These things were huge and stood 75' tall or so? They were lined up in a star pattern as far as the eye could see.

Could someone tell me what these are for? I have always wondered since I saw them? NASA possibly?

It was kind of wierd to say the least. I felt like I was being "watched?" Kind of creepy in a way.

The dishes are on a large rail system so they can be moved around. Pretty cool.

If you are ever driving down around Datil, NM it is worth a look. Like it has been mentioned, these dishes and stands are huge. The rail system, the "repair hut", and the way they are configured is pretty neat.

I have some pics, but the link by mozey is similiar to what I have. If we all knew what goes on, like our government and military, it would probably scare us!

That's pretty good elk country. I haven't been to the satellite farm in Datil, but I did kill the biggest bull of my life (385 7/8") within a mile of the big satellite dish near Pie Town. Datil and Pie Town aren't that far apart.

wrong direction.... pie town is 10-15 miles west of datil, and the satellite dishes are 15 miles east of datil. perhaps you mean magdalena. alot of private land around those dishes, you hunting on one of the ranches?
