Scoring horned animals missing a chunk

As far as B&C goes. If a bighorn sheep has a chunk of horn missing does that potentially make that horn “longer” because the tape goes down into the valley of the missing chunk and up the other side or does a measurer simply have the tape bridge the open gap as if the horn is there. It seems like this is somewhat common and it has ramifications for mass measurements in case they occur on a missing chunk but also where those mass measurements are taken bc the mass is take at quarters based on the longer horn. Thoughts?

B&C is quite specific in their scoring instructions for length.
"Do not press tape into depressions."

Mass measurements are taken in contact all around the horn, so you can suffer a loss, if the quarter measurement falls in a missing area.

Thank you blank, I have never run across that statement.

And it's a given that the chunk will always be at a 1/4 point. Lol :cautious: Chunks usually don't help score.

first quarter penalty for sure......would you pass??
