So my son was out scouting for sheds today. He got to some rocks and a ledge around some mahogany and started to glass for sheds. There were a few bucks with only one antler so he was feeling pretty lucky.
He had his binoculars up and his German Shepherd was standing on his right when it let out a scream. He said it was a scream like he had stepped on his dog's foot but way more intense. Figuring the dog maybe got his foot caught between some rocks, he reached for the dog and found the dog had jumped away. What he was reaching for alongside him was now a cougar! He actually touched it and it's tail as it brushed against his leg while going for the dog.
He shouted and went for his 357. The cougar turned right and jumped off a 12' ledge and ran off through the mahogany. Tracks in the snow showed the cougar had come around the ledge behind them and went for the dog. It was small cougar about the size of the German Shepherd.
Dog and son okay with a couple of deer sheds and a good story when he got home.
