Well if I thought my odds were slim when you had to validate in person, they will surely be worse now that you don't! The Democrats must be running the Expo this year.
Well being as the local economy shut them down and wouldn't let them do a expo this was about the only option they had. Things might be back to normal next year.I'm out as well...just a money grab now with no concern for the local economy either.

Pretty sure non residents could apply for everything in previous years but there were a handful of NR only tags also. Not only do you not have to validate in person but they are also allowing non-residents to apply for everything. SFW really screwed Utah residents this year.
Kinda hard to plan a expo and dump a ton of money into planning it if the state/city wont guarantee you they will let you hold it when the time comes.Ill take that bet.
$fw stands to collect a windfall.
There is very little chance in person validation will return.
The expo IS NOT ABOUT THE LOCAL ECONOMY. It never was, never.
Supposedly it was about raising money to support "conservation".
Im sure there will be another billboard sized check, with a little bump presented. To push "we raised more" by allowing online.
Mark it down.
“it’s not complaining” but you sure have a lot to say about it LMAO.Lmfao im not complaining its ut tags they are giving away not my states!
5$ eachYou must be involved with $.f.w.?congrats on the 2 tags how much have they cost you? Don't say $5 give us a total of what you have spent on the con show total!

And im pretty sure the validation in person rule is set by the dwr, they did away with it this year due to the circumstances. It was a one year deal.
Yes we will see, but I'm sure if I'm right you will have something else to gripe about. We will see.
I notice they didnt offer to refund a portion of the $3.75 that "covers their expense" when they didnt have the expense.
You know, this one year?

Im not a super sfw groupie i call the balls and the strikes according to what I feel is right/wrong. For instance I dont think they should have gotten the contact for the expo tags, but i dont really blame them for that, that falls on the state in my opinion. And i feel they should give the whole $5 back to the state.
But this is also not their fault, dont let your hatred for the group cloud your judgment on the issue.
I never went in...no need all the narcissists post on social media to see their mounts for free lmao.I agree that odds will be worse this year without the in-person validation. But, how many people go to the expo and pay the $15 or $25 to go in because they have to do in-person validation?
During a normal year where they have the show would the additional money made on application fees cover the money lost because you didn't pay to go in the show hall?
I know you didn't have to pay to validate. I"m asking how many people paid to go to the show because they were already there to validate?People didn't have to pay to get in to the expo to validate tag applications. Validation was out in the hallway.
Probably 80-90% of them.I know you didn't have to pay to validate. I"m asking how many people paid to go to the show because they were already there to validate?
Oh yea I’d plan on it for sure!! ?Good the more guys complaining about opting to drop out just up’s my odds again!! ??
Of course they are gonna draw, some draw a couple of tags a year, coincidental of courseBottom line is somebody is going to draw them no matter the odds...if you don't put in your guaranteed not to draw
Yeah and SFW has never gone back on their word, right? They seem pretty insistent that the in person validation will be in place after this year.View attachment 23862
If the goal is to raise as much money as possible for the benefit of wildlife it will likely make sense long term to permanently eliminate the in person validation. If it results in selling more licenses the state gains the revenue from the licenses and the extra PR tax revenue. If you really care about raising additional revenue for wildlife I do not know how you could support going back to in person validation unless revenue somehow drops this year - very unlikely. I am not saying SFW uses the money wisely or does not. Keep it 100% virtual - lowers your costs, expands your audience, and increases revenues maybe I am missing something (local businesses, vendors, etc. I get that but those should be at best secondary considerations). Imagine the good that could be done if this were done with the single mission of benefitting wildlife. I have never bought a lottery ticket and have only gambled in a casino one time - I donated some money to SFW with the chance to draw a tag for the first time and will do it again next year unless I have to validate in person - just not practical for me to do. I hope to be the first person from Iowa to ever draw one of these tags (I have never noted anyone from Iowa on the list - but someone may have).
If they don't go back to in person validation then there is no point in ponying up the 200 tags, Utah is the only one with skin in the game, no other western state is giving tags for this show.If the goal is to raise as much money as possible for the benefit of wildlife it will likely make sense long term to permanently eliminate the in person validation. Its not SFW's decision its the states/dwr'sYeah and SFW has never gone back on their word, right?
I’m not a UT resident but that’s what I remember too. Tags were predicated on having the large expo in SLC.If they don't go back to in person validation then there is no point in ponying up the 200 tags, Utah is the only one with skin in the game, no other western state is giving tags for this show.
They got the tags on the stipulation they would keep the expo in Utah, and that it would be an in person validation. one of the main points for the state to give the tags was to have a large event in SLC every year as a boon to the local economy. Obviously that was not possible this year with a world wide pandemic effecting the entire globe.
The in person validation is a lot bigger thing than a lot of you realize. The whole event was prefaced with it in mind. Take away in person validation, and you will not have the tags in the future.
In person validation is not going away permanently.
Aren't some SFW members on the wildlife board? Didn't SFW have enough pull with the DWR to get the last contract over RMEF?Its not SFW's decision its the states/dwr's
Purely coincidental ?Aren't some SFW members on the wildlife board? Didn't SFW have enough pull with the DWR to get the last contract over RMEF?
Its not up to the wildlife board, the wildlife board didn't give them the contract the state did, And all that revenue for the local economy looks a lot more appealing to the governor and his lackeys' then a few extra dollars going to SFW.Aren't some SFW members on the wildlife board? Didn't SFW have enough pull with the DWR to get the last contract over RMEF?
All the money does stay in Utah.Keep all the money raised in Utah for projects - I always assumed that is where it stayed mostly anyway? If the goal is to maximize the benefit of the tags/increase revenue for wildlife it is a really easy decision if in fact this way raises more revenue as predicted.
I would bet it’s going to be a big increase. People can’t pass up putting in for raffles etc but time wil tell for sure. I’m able to use my hunting license I purchased last year at the expo to apply this year. I’m only putting in for the 4 sheep tags so that’s 20 dollars I’m in for this year. Not bad at all.All the money does stay in Utah.
I bet it will not be as big a jump in revenue as everyone is expecting, lots of people do not realize they still have to purchase a small game license at $85 for non residents on top of what ever hunts they choose to put in for, that's going to add up pretty quick.
yeah, if it was $5-$30 to put in for a few hunts then alot would, but now your looking at $90-125 for pretty far fetched odds. I do not see a big jump in applicants coming.
These Expo tags are silly. When you spend $5 to buy a 1 in 10,000 chance at a Henry mountains mule deer, the odds are so ridiculous. Sure someone wins the lottery every year too, but financially it is a very poor investment. You are much better off investing that money and growing it to one day out to use on hunts and gear.
I bet you're a millionaire with financial advice like that. Wait I just looked at your profile, you bought the henry mountains tag auction tag! ??These Expo tags are silly.
