South slope, diamond mnt elk diy

Depends on many factors. A buddy hunted that area and season in 2012. We did some pre season scouting to essentially learn the area. When the season opened we found the water that was on public land. The elk would drink on public and then head for private to bed down. He ambushed the elk and was able to take a good 6 point bull this way. So to answer your question, if you put the time and effort in you can be successful but it can also be a frustrating hunt when dealing with the private property. If you have good navigation skills and aren’t afraid of hunting outside the box, give it a whirl.

Thanks! I am good at navigating and thinking outside the box.

There is early and mid rifle, no late rifle. From 2020 Utah regs:

Any legal weapon (rifle) — midseason hunts
Hunt name Hunt # Season dates
Box Elder, Grouse Creek EB3030 Oct. 3–Oct. 25
Central Mtns, Manti EB3126 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
North Slope, Three Corners EB3053 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
Paunsaugunt EB3059 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
Plateau, Fishlake/Thousand Lakes EB3064 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
South Slope, Diamond Mtn EB3069 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
Wasatch Mtns EB3127 Oct. 3–Oct. 15
West Desert, Deep Creek EB3075 Oct. 3–Oct. 15

Ok, I consider the "mid" as the late. How do you have a "mid"without a late? 2 rifle season's regardless of what they are labeled.

FWIW the north slope three corners is the only rifle hunt , so how is it a "mid"?

Treed, they started calling it a mid season hunt because it runs the same time as the "fairly new" mid season hunt on the Wasatch, and I think elsewhere that runs during the general season hunt.

You are right it used to be called the late hunt even though they ran it at the same time as the general season hunt, but at the time it was the only LE unit in the state with a hunt at that time. once they added a couple more "mid" season hunts they just started calling this a mid season as well. They do not offer a late hunt on Diamond.
