Unit 212 Sheep

I know there are sheep on Lone Mtn. and the Weepahs but does anyone know whether or not there are sheep on the ranges in the southern part of the unit?

During the summer months, those sheep will be mostly on Lone itself, you will see lots of them. By the time the hunt rolls around they will be spread all over the unit, most sheep are killed in the Weepah hills area or Lone mountain, but they do kill them other places as well.

Thanks but what about farther south like (on google earth), places like Split Mountain, Montezuma Peak, Magruder Peak, Mount Dundee?

Not sure about those. There may be sheep on Montezuma, but I saw enough sheep other places to jot even worry about it. It will not be over run with hunters.

Weepahs will be the most fun and...just as successful...unless you just like steep....

How did you guys do on this hunt? Looking into applying for 212 this year.

Still sheep on the mountain or was there disappointing development?

Sorry I'm late to the party here. ThunderBall when I drew that tag I had the exact same thought. I was going to pound those southern hills until I turned up something special. I was planning on going to look near Goldfield area and hit every spring and guzzler all the way to Death Valley/NV boarder. But before I went there I figured Id check out Lone and the Weepahs. So I went in there and never left. I found 3 Rams that were easily over 160 and 10 or so 140-150 rams. I ended up taking the one in my picture and he was my number 2 ram. The biggest ram I spotted was in July in the weepahs and he disappeared in August. He was easily a high 160 possible a 170 Ram. Mine ended up being like 164 and change or something like that. I'm sure there are a few down there that are dying of old age but I was having too much fun to search for the diamond in the rough.

I had the Archery tag in the unit last year and tagged a nice mature ram DIY solo. Talked to the biologist and he wasn’t aware of any sheep in the Southern part of the unit. You won’t have any problem finding some good rams at Lone Mountain and in the Weepah hills.

I had the tag a few years ago. Was so curious about the other sets of hills too as the unit is massive comparable to what you actually hunt. Silver state hunter gave me some help and I also scouted over 9 days in unit. I never left Lone, Weepah, and Paymaster. Found my ram in Paymaster on the opener. If I was retired I’d head down to southern part just to scout around. Cool part of the state. Great story on the remnant herd in 212 as well.
