Unit 42 cow elk

Nevada non resident looking for a place to camp and hunt a cow elk in unit 42. I was thinking of hunting the west side of the unit just south of De Beque. I know nothing about the unit going in blind as a bat. Any suggestions on where to go?

Take a look at Garfield Creek State Wildlife area south of New Castle. There's usually quite a few hunters in there but there's also a fair amount of elk in the area. There are designated camping spots.

Garfield creek could be alright. Be advised that majority of those elk will be piled on the Triple J and Porter ranch though and Silver Spur Outfitters does quite the job of keeping them there..

Thanks Colorado , I am curious about the area south of De Beque ? Will the elk be down lower by 3rd season?
