Unit 58 and Rio Grande BHS

Any idea who drew the new BHS hunt tags for the above areas? Be interesting to see how they did. Good luck.

Don't know who drew... But the rumor going around is the potential new world record is in the Rio Grande herd... and the lucky guy has 5 months to find him.

Heard the same thing. Word is the potential record predominantly hangs out on the east side of the Rio which belongs to Taos Pueblo and is off limits to the state hunters. The east side also offers more conducive feed, habitat and is somewhat more hunter friendly regarding terrain and accessability. The critters however, do cross from one side to the other and will be especially more prevalent in November during their rut. Hope the lucky hunters find this trophy ram on their side of the Rio during their five month hunt. No shortage of rams on the east side though. Should be an awesome hunt.

yeah he likes the indian side quite well, as do the majority of the sheep...but they do of course rally across the gorge to the state side at infrequent intervals.

Chances of the big dude being killed by either of the draw hunters is slim to zero...there are a potential 3 tags that can choose that opportunity before the general draw hunts even start no

There is only one tag that can choose that unit before the draw hunters, then the other two potential raffle/auction tag would have to choose a different unit. I also only thought there was 2 rocky raffle/auction (1 each ) and 2 desert raffle/auction tags (1 each). Has that changed? Also, you guys are referring to Unit 50, correct, not Unit 58?

^The Pueblo has two auction hunters as well. Yessir, Rio Grande corridor, units 49, 50, 53.

I was hopeing GW would chime in on this... as he is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE About sheep... AND OTHER STUFF AS WELL!
