Anti-trappers in New Mexico are preparing to flock to public Game Commission hearings this summer and fall to urge the rulemaking body to ban trapping.

The New Mexico Game Commission sets regulations for hunters, anglers and trappers. Its decisions are based on public input and scientific wildlife management principles. An organization called In Defense of Animals is urging its members to pressure the Commission to do away with trapping.

New Mexico sportsmen should plan to attend the next three hearings. The Game Commission should hear from sportsmen who know that trapping is a safe and viable wildlife management tool.

The Commission will hear arguments at the first two hearings and vote on the proposed changes at its September meeting.

Hearing Dates:

July 21
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
2401 12th St., NW
Albuquerque, NM

August 18

Santa Fe Community College
6401 Richards Ave.

September 22 and 23
