Weird snake

I have seen about 5 of these over the years,mostly around 7,000' elevation in the central Sierra's.

Any of you know what they are?
 
looks like a rubber boa, there hard to tell which end is the head or tail... i see them here in utah up pretty high in the mts. to....
 
Thanks guys,I alway wondered what they are,they must be rare in these parts cause' I have never seen them in books and stuff.This one was on the road and moving real slow so we picked him up and took him off the road.
 
I've seen two. They make great pets, I've never kept one though. They look like big night crawlers. I was back packing on the steepest mountain range in the States when I found this one. I was checking out a moose carcass at 8,567' when I hiked down to a rock with six Turkey Vultures sitting on it. I wanted to get them on film when I ran into his guy.
