Western States Hunt/Fish Costs

Pardon me Nevada!!!????
Nonres Elk ??????????????????????????????????????????????????

'It's all about the gut pile'

SneakAttack,

No kidding! And that's usually only after you've accumulated about 10 bonus points at about $140 each.

You would think at that price they would throw in an escort from Madam Orr's House!:)

No freakin way????

I paid $75 for my cow tag (resident AZ) That just aint right. Just imagine how much harder and more expensive it's going to get after USO has their way. Very sad.

I'm not sure, but I think that sight is a bunch of hooey. I just checked the Idaho fish and game site and the price for non res Elk was $338.50. $200 raise in price???? Yeah, that'll raise the economy...not!

I got family in Idaho! That just aint right! I hope that this isn't true.

I'm glad that 'ol George cut his own throat! No more Outdoors Channel show. No more sponsors. That man is the devil incarnate! George, GFY!

Be careful what you ask for @hole!!!!

No respectable hunter alive will hire you or your outfit!

Did anyone besides me notice Realtree Outdoors listed in BOLD letters USO as a sponsor on their show this past weekend? It was Bill Jordons Wyoming sheep hunt.

Greaaat. Just what we need. Utah just raised the resident fees based on 'market value', saying we are paying LESS than neighboring states. By the time I draw a tag, it will cost me as much as a Nevada NR tag!

Maybe we are gonna have to get a carefully worded initiative on the next ballot to outlaw all commercial profiting from game animals. That would override game&fish, the legislature, the landowners who want to sell tags and the outfitters. If it puts all outfitting and guiding out of biz then those who make a living at it need to go after one of their own for starting the fight. It is a proven method for the public to get things straightened out and a bunch of people who don't know what hunting is would sign and vote if they find out businesses are selling state animals. It would be ugly but is the next step if outfitters, game departments and landowners want to squeeze the public hunters out.

Public hunting is slowly coming to an end. So much for bringing kids up hunting. It'll be hard enough for them to just buy a house. I will keep paying the non-resident fees until I can't afford it.

Tell me about it! I have money invested in Arizona now for points. I guess I will just have to throw those away because I won't be able to afford the NR Tag fee for Elk. Me and lots of other NRs who have dreamed of hunting elk in Az. I know that will make a lot of residents happy. It does'nt bother Taulman though. He has enough deep pocket hunters that he can even increase his guide fees on top of the tags!

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-04 AT 11:49AM (MST)[p]JohnSWA, (and others that misunderstood the table at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/news/top_story/fee_proposal/comparison.pdf)

If the proposal passes it would only cost nonresident's $63.75 more to hunt elk in Idaho next year. The $530.75 listed for elk is the combined price of the hunting license and elk tag.

kingfish,
I would like to see the Idaho F&G get money from sales tax like a couple of other states do. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen any time in the near future. Since the dollar doesn't go as far as it use to the F&G does have to get more money somewhere and it is going to be at our expense.

This year your Idaho hunting license and deer tag was $363.50. If the fee increase passes the nonresident deer tag and hunting license would cost you $413.00. If you hunt deer in Idaho next year it will cost you $49.50 more than it did this year. For residents the price for a hunting license + deer tag will only increase $3.75 (if the proposal passes).

I think this proposal is going to pass without too much trouble and don't think it is all that unfair even though nonresidents are getting the thickest part of the shaft. If I wanted to hunt deer in California it would cost me $495.65 which is $132.45 more than you paid to hunt in Idaho this year and still $82.65 more than it would cost if the fee increase passes.

At least in Idaho you can still afford to take your kid hunting. Idaho is the only western state (that I'm aware of) that a nonresident can buy his kid a hunting license, deer tag and elk tag for less than a tank of gas($31.25).
