This is an important indicator to study in the preservation versus conservation debate. Many anti-hunters believe we human beings can take our hands off of wildlife management and this will make wildlife populations stronger. They use that as an argument against the role of hunting in conservation.

In fact there is no way to take the fingerprint of man off of nature. A whale living as far from society in literally on of the most wild and untamed environments on earth is till living and dying under the fingerprint of humanity. We must manage all wildlife and CONSERVE it and its ecosystems. To believe we can suddenly not hunt them or actively manipulate their environments by design while hoping they flourish is idiocy.
