What is this?

I've come to rely on you guys through the years when I can't figure out what something is. Surely some of you guys will know what this is. Found these all over in one of my hunting spots last weekend. Some kind of bug catcher? Are they trying to see what bugs these pine trees are holding?

They are used to monitor insect activity in an area. We used the same type of trap here in NM to monitor bark beetle activity before, during, and after thinning projects. The one you saw was probably for monitoring invasive insects or possibly bark beetles. They use a specific pheromone to lure the insect they are interested in.
