What is this?

Ran across this the other day in the woods. Right on the Idaho Montana border. My thought was that it is some kind of trap for a wolverine as I hear there's a study going on, but I have no idea. It was not big enough for a bear, well at least a decent sized bear. It was completely locked up and there was no way to get into it,

it was nailed shut. Anybody have any ideas?

They don't in that state. If the person that built it wanted to catch a wolverine, the top would not be nailed shut but would be attached to the pole running along the top.

I’m envisioning a pole with a tranquilizer dart on the end of it. But who knows maybe some badass sticks his arm in a grabs that sob by the scruff of the neck.

Need some BIG cojones to reach in there to grab a live wolverine. Most likely pull back a bloody stump. ??

Its a live trap used to catch wolverines for studies. Its not for fur harvest.

Wolverines are all bark and no bite. Hell, they couldn't even beat a horned frog.

That’s really cool. Definitely a wolverine trap. Guessing they nail it shut when not in use to deter any one else from using/messing with it
