What is with the oaks?

I live at about 2000 foot elevation, slightly above the white oak range and near the lower end of the black oak range in my area. Below me the white oaks are dropping acorns like crazy and same with the black oaks above 2500 feet. I used to see tons of mast at this elevation six or more years ago, but now there is nothing--and this has been going on for several years. Has anyone else noticed this pattern or have any explanations? If this continues, the deer in the Cascades will have lost a big part of their winter range...

...so...they'll starve between 2000 and 2500 feet??

I hunted a little bit in the Tan Oaks. It seemed like a normal year for acorns. Too bad there's no deer to eat them.
