Whitehorse unit for my daughter

My daughter should be able to draw the Whitehorse unit for Buck Deer next year. Though she is only in middle school, we are both avid hikers and are willing to put some miles in... We have horses so we aren't too limited there. I've never hunted Whitehorse unit but I hear it's as good as any of our declining units here in the SE.

We live in Burns, OR and would like to start some scoutin/hiking ASAP... Any thoughts on some good starting places?
