Female bear quota is filling fast! Spring bear might be a bust. UPDATE: the area we were baiting is closed! Might try a different area.
My wife and I and our 2 boys have applied for 17 fall Wyoming tags. Count down to Christmas morning is on when we find out what we draw. Should be a busy fall.
We drew 6 out of 17 tags. We can buy general elk and deer if we want. We will see what shakes out this fall. My oldest boy drew a good bull tag and my other boy drew a good antelope tag. Should be a great fall!
Summer flew by. Boys shot the crossbow a bunch. I knew having 2 youth hunters this fall they would take priority. Yesterday and today we spot n stalk antelope in this heat. We saw 100s of antelope and passed on ones with babies or in tough spots to stalk. My second oldest boy earned his first harvest in hot weather and spot n stalk archery. 51 yards.
First day in the elk woods. Kinda slow but wouldn't trade time with my boys for anything. Heard 2 bugles and called in 1 5x5 silent to 70 yards. Will only get better as the month goes on.
Took a break from chasing elk. Rifle antelope started today. My youngest boy (6) has been begging me to take him hunting. I promised I would take him for antelope. We had this guy marked a month ago during archery and he was right there this morning with a few does. A big loop and my second oldest boy got set up for a 150 yard shot. Dumped him. Kids were back in school by 11am and not happy about it. Haha.
The sun has set on another September. I really struggle archery hunting elk. Wrong spot at the wrong time this year. We had this rag horn today at 108. Saw a few whitetails. Boys had fun. Hiked 8 miles. Gonna be a few weeks until our next hunt.
