Youth or Not?

Need some help here, my son turns 18 Oct. 30 and I thought to be considered for youth his birthday had to be after the season dates he applies to. When we try to apply as a party it wants to renew his junior license, do I need to confirm with NDOW or does this mean he has another season to try for youth mule deer? Are they unrelated, the junior license and tag?

He can't apply for junior deer as he will be 18 before the hunts close.

Put the junior hunt license in your cart and see when it expires. It may expire the day before he turns 18.

I would not put him in for junior deer regardless.

I tried reading the regulations as far as the license part, but would assume they are not related. According to regulations, you are correct about him turning 18 before seasons close. Therefore, he wouldn’t be eligible anyway. My daughter is 16 and has already applied 5 times (she applied when she was 11 because she turned 12 one day before Archery season), so she can’t apply for Youth anymore. I would bet that since your son is 17 now while you are applying, that they are letting him buy one more license at the Youth price. If your concerned about that part, maybe a quick phone call to NDOW to reassure that wouldn’t hurt. Good luck in the draws to you and your Son!

Thank you the replies. What I didn’t want to happen is purchase his junior license now and have to upgrade to the the regular license when he turns 18 in the same season

Problem solved NDOW had to stop auto renew and that will solve this. His license is good till Oct so no problem with the draw, no risk of losing points if he doesn’t get a tag
