Bucks home range and center area....

Okay, I recently read "Mule deer Quest" (forget the authors name) and was pretty interested in the chapter on the bucks homerange and center area. It goes something like this...
Every MATURE buck has a home range where he spends a lot of his time during fall. inside his homerange he will have a "center area" where he spends many of his non active hours in. This usually includes a very small area of thick brush or a timber thicket that is basically the bucks living room. He feels very safe there and does not fear predators as it's usually too thick for them to stalk him. He usually has water and good browse nearby. Many bucks will spend the hunting season in their center area only leaving maybe briefly at night.

Do you guys agree with this "theory" as I would call it.

If the buck lives somewhere well away from any hunters then yeah I believe it,but add a little pressure and hes not gonna stick around anywhere for to long.

I would agree with what you said. IMO once hunting season starts many big bucks will travel a mile or more to there food and water and hold tight in some thick cover during daylight.

Absolutely, deer are very traditional. They summer in the same place each year and migrate to the same portion of the winter range. Even with hunting pressure they don't go far but do get into hiddy holes and go nocturnal. This has been proven thru telemetry studies.

Thanks guys. I'll check some of this stuff out when I'm on my scouting trips.
