Has anyone taken a bull in this unit in the last few years that scores over 320 points? I hunted it in 2004 and saw lots of bulls but I was unable to locate a 320 plus bull. Any info would be appreciated.

Hunted it in 06 during the archery season. Although we hunted real hard for 10 days, we were unable to find anything over 280. We ate tag soup not because of quality but for lack of quantity.
Good luck. David

Most of the elk on 24 have bad genes. You see alot with real goofy browtines. It is a very easy hunt with tons of access, there is not one landowner I know of that does not allow hunting. With all the pressure its tough for any bulls to get to any size. A 300 is a good bull for the area. This hunt is more for the roadside hunter than a trophy area IMO.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-09 AT 07:44PM (MST)[p]This dude, ART338WM, hunted 24 last year. You might shoot him a pm. 24 doesn't suffer from bad genes. The problem is the elk don't live long enough to get any size. The average age at harvest is 3 or 4 years of age. The mountain and habitat area is small. The G & F don't want them over populating so the tag numbers are set intentionally high...

IS there many elk down on the private land? I thought most ofall of the elk that I saw were in the mountains. Also does anyone know if the motel in Jeffery City is still open?

Unit 24 wasnt open for elk in 2007? That is news to me. Why was it closed? I hunted in in 2004, and I think they issued around 100 bull elk tags that year.
