I drew an area 7 resident wyoming elk tag and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on who allows hunting for tresspass fees. I realize the public land is sparse and hunted pretty hard. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Wyo,
Do a search on this forum and the Wyoming forum. There are a lot of past posts on unit 7. I think you'll find them helpful. GOOD LUCK. Chip.

I was going to suggest what chipc said. There has been tons of threads almost annually on Unit 7. I bet if you go thru those past threads you will get all your questions answered?

Enjoy it while you can boys and girls... I just talked to a Game Warden and he said if herd objectives aren't met this season, in 2010 or 2011, area 7 will be a general area... Not a good thing IMHO...

Hey guys! Is area 7 really that populated with elk? I have been applying in WY for another area. Just wanting to hunt elk in a good area with a chance at a 300 bull. Is the public hunting really that good?

There are definately lots of elk... On the True Ranch, Werner Ranch, Bell-Ott Ranch and Wagonhound Ranch... Wagonhound is getting $8500 for a bull this year... That's the problem with making it a general tag. The public land in area 7 is a zoo right now as it is. Archery season is no better... You make that area a general area and someone will end up getting shot on public land! The game warden said the same thing... within 2 days 90% of the elk will be on private land... Which is basically the same reason that they are over populated right now...

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-09 AT 04:42PM (MST)[p]Gil Thats what I was kind of thinking from all the area 7 posts. That is a shame. I know everyone wants to be able to hunt but I am a believer that Id rather hunt limited areas every few years with less tags and better success than a zoo of people and lots of tags. Seems like area 7 has high appeal with a lot of tags avaiable though.
