Found this to be interesting:
ALAMOSA ? The city of Alamosa ran a major deer hunt on Tuesday, because the animals were roaming through the streets.
The Alamosa city manager, Nathan Cherpeski, told 9NEWS that a deer is hit by a car at least once a week. Sometimes two or three are hit in a single week.
Often the deer have to be put down by police officers after they are hit by a car.
Cherpeski also says two small dogs have also been killed because they were trampled to death and the window of a bank was broken because a buck wanted to fight his reflection.
At another time, a deer went into a house after the homeowner left a door open.
The hunt was to try and cut down on those numbers and stabilize the herd.
The hunt started a half hour before sunrise on Tuesday. Hunting was only allowed on a golf course within the city limits and on a ranch just outside the city. No hunting was allowed on the city streets.
Hunters were only allowed to use shotguns, and not high powered rifles on the ranch, and archery on the golf course.
Only 30 permits were issued for the hunting and everyone who was given a permit had to prove they could shoot before being eligible. Cherpeski says many applicants were eliminated because they could not qualify.
The hunt was under Division of Wildlife rules, which means it goes until February 28, when they cut off all hunting.
Under DOW rules, each hunter is only allowed to kill one deer. Only two were tagged on Tuesday after the hunt began.
The hunters are also on a schedule, so they are not all out at once.
It's Bush's fault!!!
