So after 3 weeks of hunting off and on. (i have to show up to school at least a couple days a week.) I was able to connect on a bull. I can't put into words how good it feels to finish up the season this way after having such a tough, frustrating season up to this point. The first two weeks i spent mainly hunting by myself and worrying the heck out of my mom. (Most moms seem to worry when their 17 year old kid is out in the wilderness for days at a time all alone.) Opening day of archery i was able to get an arrow in a beautiful 7 point bull id been watching durning the summer that I was guessing to be about 350 inches. A true monser by Colorado's standards in an over the counter public land area. But the shot was 62 yards and i ended up getting a little wind drift on the arrow and struck the bull in the shoulder. Well at the time i didnt quite know where the arrow had hit him because i didnt get a pass through and he spun around with the opposite side facing me and made it into the timber. Well being it was dark I backed out and decided to wait but just my luck and just a sign of things to come it rained all night and that morning washing away all my blood and hope of finding the bull. I later found out someone had spotted the bull with a broken arrow in his shoulder.. I was unable to find the bull in the days to follow and went home tired and frustrated. Week two i decided to hunt one of my other spots. I left home at 3:45 friday morning and packed back into my area by myself and quickly located a nice bull. Long story short i had forgot my range finder at home in my morning daze trying to leave the house. Thus i had this bull below me at 40 yards but i guessed him to be 50 and ended up shooting over his back. UGH! I hunted 2 more days but with no avail. Later that week my dad told me of an area he'd been hunting bears for a couple weeks now and how he'd found some really good elk country. So what the heck i thought might as well go spend some time with dad. The next morning we worked back into some really sweet country and spotted some elk along ways off and started working that way. Two miles later we found a nice drainage leading up into a basin that looked like a good bet to spend the day. About a half mile up the drainage we stopped for a quick break to catch our breaths when i heard heavy crashing in the aspens about us. I instantly knew it had to be elk! Not a moment later 3 bulls came jogging in our direction. But i had my bow still in the sling i was carrying it in and was in a mad dash to get it out and knock an arrow as the bulls we're closing in. The first two bulls ended up passing me at 20 yards as i struggled to get my bow free. Yet the third bull wasnt quite as quick and veered off a little at about 30 yards. By now i had my bow free and an arrow knocked. I drew my beloved pse x force as the bull jogged by at 30 yards and dad gave a soft cow call and he froze. It seemed so perfect as my pin settled in as he quartered away and i let fly. A picture perfect shot just as I had invisioned all year day dream while i was supposed to be doing something else. The bull went about 200 yards expired. The easton FMJ and the rage had done its job. I couldn't been any happier with the outcome getting to shoot my bull with my dad by my side in such a picture perfect moment that had luck written all over it. I won't forget this hunt for the rest of my life.

Thats one heck of a colorado bull!! Nice job, wish you would have gotten the 7x7, but it happens. Did the other hunter who saw him kill him? Im surprised that x-force didnt drill through his shoulder!

Thanks guys. It feels really good to have the monkey off my back and meat in the freezer. I don't think anyone has killed that bull yet. Hes been in that general area the last two years but last year he was a big 6 point and I had him at full draw this past season opening morning but had a spike step in front of him in my only shooting lane. Ya i was surprised it didnt either but im guessing it was due to the shot was 60 yards and i learned my lesson on shooting rage broad heads. As you can see it punched a pretty good whole in him but i didnt get a complete pass through and the blood trail was very minimal and I had a heck of time finding it I actually found him by finding his track not his blood. But Im going to be shooting my trusty g5 montecs next animal i take. Hopefully I'll get my bear before season ends.
