Congratulations! There is no way I could stay off the trigger until the last day. You have more discipline than me.

If I recall, Stinky was hoping for a big typical 6x6. I would call that "mission accomplished", big time!

Congratulations Boy's! Thanks for letting us tag along. That's a beautiful bull Stinkster. We even made some new friends i.e. your Mom. Also found out there are a few on MM that are just plain grumpy.

No worries!!! All's well that ends well.

Stinky,
That Bull is a Toad, thank you and Slammy for keeping my passion for hunting alive this year. I am in New Orleans doing a job and will miss all of the hunting seasons in Utah this year so you guys have gave me the fix that I have needed. Thanks again for a fantastic ride.

Very well done...Stinks and Slammy
I don't post much but I read often. The best part of this entire endevor is you seem to be thrilled with not only the beautiful bull you have taken but also the entire experience since you received the tag.
Congrats, Don

Very well done indeed! That's one heck of a fine bull, and it sounds like it was one heck of a fine hunt too. I think it is particularly outstanding that Bessy was able to join in. Hasn't been the same around here without him lately, so it's good to know he's getting out and doing some hunting.

Way to go guys!

Congrads on the bull! You stuck it out and glad it worked out. I would hate to see the bull your's got in a fight with! It looks like your bull hardly has any points left on his far side?

Great bull and congrats to all involved. Stinky thanks for keeping us posted on your great hunt. It has been fun to check ur post for the last couple of weeks.

good luck and goon hunting

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-09 AT 11:58PM (MST)[p]Congrats Stinky he's an awesome bull and I can't wait to see more pics! So do we get to call you 30buckstomper????

ok. Heres the story. It started off as another day of trying to position myself where bulls were seen the day before. This was becoming the norm. I would be in one spot and ray, or brock, or slammy would spot a giant in another spot or I would spot a monster walking through the trees at over 3 miles and would only show himself for a few seconds. We started walking in to position before first light. Brock wanted to drop off in a canyone I had never before seen elk in and I quickly told him no. I had it in my mind that I was going to a saddle we had seen numerous 380++ bulls dissapear into several days straight. I had originally set on this saddle opening morning and subsequent days after. We always saw giants in the general area. I figured if I was to have any chance I would have to get down in the canyon walls and hope and pray. Well as we finally worked into position we quickly noticed no elk were there or anywhere for that matter. No bugling, no cow chirps, no nothing. Lets just say it was very depressing for the final day of the season. I decided to leave brock and go lower into the canyon. I was about 50 yards below brock when I heard rocks rolling in the bottom. I quickly looked to see tons of cows coming out of the saddle below. I saw a couple of 320 bulls and knew instantly they were not shooters. I noticed movement below all the elk and with my naked eye at 600 yards I could tell I was looking at the type of bull I'd been looking for. I quickly started looking for a place to put my pack down on for a shooting rest. As I was doing this Brock was coming down toward me. I told him to get his butt down there and shoot ranges for me. He said wait so I can get him in the spotting scope and make sure he's a shooter. I told him there wasn't time and that I was going to shoot a monster. About that time he noticed the bull and started flipping out. At this point the 600 yard range was read and brock kept saying don't shoot, calm down your shaking way to bad to hit anything. Well I pulled the trigger to only hear the snap of the firing pin. Good thing cuz I flinched so bad I would have missed him by several yards lol. I quickly chambered a round and jerked the trigger again. The bullet went miles over his back. Brock was upset and said you got to calm down your breathing isn't even normal and you can't talk right. Well I jacked another round and wedged the gun in a crevice to act as a vice. Good thing cuz the crosshairs weren't moving even when I flinched and jerked the trigger again. That round dead centered his neck and send him peeling off the cows. After that I shot 9 more times at the bull at ranges I had very good drop charts for. Every time I flinched and slapped the trigger due to bull fever. I have never been such a nervous wreck. At one point I also barely missed sending a round over the hill as I was repositioning the gun for another shot because my trigger finger was even shaking so bad. Well we waited the wounded bull out for two hours and then proceeded in to find out what happened. Brock was sure he knew where the bull was last seen so I followed him ignoring what I thought was a good spot to look at. Bobcatbess thought other wise. He stopped, pulled out his binos, looked up the ridge and said there he is and he's running over the ridge. He was only 40 yards away. well I ran up the ridge to get a look and could hear him running up the other side. Bessy was right behind me. I took the first shot offhand at 250 yards and missed. I quickly found a good rest and waited for him to turn broad side and put one dead center of the guts. The bullet ripped into on side and left a fist sized hole on the other side and liquified lungs gut and everything else. He turned up the hill and offered a quarters shot so I broke down his rear running gear. 30 seconds later he was dead. Coolest thing about it is that my awesome spotter slamdunk watched the whole thing in the spotting scope as bobcatbess, the man himself, was watching over my shoulder. Utfireman was there helping every inch of the way and Brock was doing his best not to cuss me the entire time I struggled with bull fever. This was the most awesome hunt I've ever been on period. The entire time we all thought we had a solid 380 to 390 bull. Noone ever saw busted tines and regardless I woulda shot that thing opening day. That dude looked like a pig and was moving out. I had no choice, I had to shoot. The excitement was too much and I came to experience just that. Bull fever. I've never experienced that and hope that one day again before I die I can find myself missing another animal 10 times all at very easy range for my ability. What an awesome hunt and an awesome ending. BTW: slammy himself officially scored this bull at 350 and change as is with busted tines. He estimated his 6x6 frame to be around 375 and his extra broken point to be around 14 inches from previous bulls he's seen with double front tines. That would have put him around 390 unbusted. Anyways, here are a few pictures.

Enjoy.

Tony,

Enjoy your bull! It was a lot of fun. I will get the video to tree and let him work his magic so people can see the fun that we had.

Drive home safe, I am sure that one cell phone will be in one hand sending pictures, and in the other hand will be your other cell phone talking to everyone else.

Bingo, you know me all to well ray. Thanks a million buddy, your graciousness was much appreciated. Please get me a copy of that video. I love the video of pretty boy and the other bull. They were 370 and 385 respectively. One was videoed through the spotting scope and the 385 was videoed at 300 yards. I was also wondering if you got video of the 50 inch wide 7x7???? God we saw tons of pig bulls. I still can't believe the bulls I passed up. What a hunt. Just wished I woulda spotted this guy on the opener. This was a 400 looking bull just did have the main beams and was busted, obviously. lol. Im still in shock.

Very nice work getting that big ole beast on the ground fellas!! Stellar bull S-Dude!!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-09 AT 07:06AM (MST)[p]Congrats to all!

That's awesome to hunt hard all week (especially with all the distractions you guys had to deal with) and then get it done on the last day! Very rewarding feeling I'm sure! Thanks for all the updates, pics, and story!

I almost got that bull fever feeling reading about your bull fever, LOL!

Wow, what a closing to the hunt. Dude you put incredible pressure on yourself. Alls well that ends well.

I'm just gonna jump out there and take a wild guess but it looks like that Lapua(that doesn't kick) kinda put a mark between someone's eyes!
Congrats dude. I've been wondering how this was all gonna turn out. Now hurry up and get that bull home so I can see it up close and personal!

Awesome Bull Guys!!!! Thanks for keeping me entertained from the time you bought the tag until you tagged out. You guys deserved to get this super bull.

Congrats!!! I couldn't be happier for you.

I have to give you my thanks for taking us all along for this wild ride.

It's provided us all hours and hours of entertainment.

Thank you.

Congrats Tony...
Had to chuckle at your story... BULL FEVER!!
That is what makes it so memorable when you go thru that kind of a hunt, and the nerves are going nuts.
And I'm glad you found Bobcatbess.. We wondered where he was catting around at.. Nice to talk to you BCB.
Glad it all worked out for you guys....again congrats to Tony, Slammy, UtFireman, BobcatBess, Brock and all who put in time helping with this hunt.
Sorry that the pizza delivery never made it but kind of had some more important issues going on...

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-09 AT 08:14AM (MST)[p]Great story Stinky,
Thanks for the whole story, when you don't get bull fever might as well quit hunting. LOL

I guess that answers the five in five inch at 900 yards! Sounds like 2 of ??(box?) in "big" Elk from 40 to 600.

Glad you got it done!!!

Great bull!!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-09 AT 08:24AM (MST)[p]Congratulations on a fine bull Stinky!!! Looks like you had a great hunt filled with plenty of excitement, intrigue, suspense and satisfaction. You got the bull you wanted and that's what it's all about. Congratulations again on a job well done to you and those that helped you! I'm glad you did well and had such a worth while hunt!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-09 AT 09:39AM (MST)[p]Here are slammy's official measurements of the right side. Mass 30", g1-16", g2-16", g3-19.5", g4-20.5", g5-14.5", main beam 54". That right side scored 173 and the tines that were still on the left (g1, g4, g5, and main beam) matched perfectly to the right side. He was 38 inches wide inside spread between the royals. With the broken extra browtine this bull woulda scored very well! We are guessing the xtra tine was probably around 14 to 16 inches. Makes you wonder. Like I said before, it wasn't about score it was about a bull that made me drop my jaw. That bull did just that even without binoculars. We all were in awe of this great bull. I'm still all excited. What a hunt!

Great job, and great story!! Thanks for keeping us all entertained. Congratulations!!

Once again - great bull and a cool story. To me - that is what makes a trophy truly a trophy. The story and the broken tines only add to what a true giant this bull really is! As you have hinted at here, hunting is a lot more than just inches of antler - and this story encapsulates all of that. I am glad Bessy was there with you guys - and good to see him in the pic! The ol' cat is still around on MM whether he chooses to be or not.

Congrats

Congrats stinky hopefully with all the B.S you have had to put up with it didn't take away from your hunt.

Is that BOBCATBESS in the picture? Hard to tell without the Cat-o-flage and his tongue hanging out.

Great job Stinky. Way to get it done.

I want to publicly thank Stinky and my whole team for allowing us the opportunity to still put this hunt on for him despite the drama leading up to it.
It was definitely the best, the worst, the most stressful, the most physical elk hunt i have EVER been on in my life!!!
Fourth quarter, third down with the two minute warning and we never let up...."patience IS a virtue".
Some may have called us the "F Troop" to begin with, but we stuck together as a team till the end and got this thing done the right way.....WHAT A FINISH, "A Team" in my book all the way!!!! :)

This bull gross scored 350 with what we all agree was conservatively 45" of broken points.
Mr Paul Penny will make him look right once he's done with his magic!! ;-)

Thank you to all that has supported us from the beginning of this saga and a very special "Thank You" to Bobcatbess for coming down for a couple days and bringing us the luck we so desperately needed....your a stud!!

THANKS FOR THE RIDE STINKY!!!!!! ;-)

Congrats on a great bull,I was personally on this hunt with my buddy who had the same tag and we were camped at the bottom of the same hill you had youre camp, down by the corrals.I would have to agree on the most physical hunt part,This is the most work I have ever put in on a elk hunt,my other buddy said he would compare this to any sheep hunt he has ever been on and he has been on two of them. But what a way to earn a bull the hard way.Again congrats busted or not what a bull!

Cool pictures. Don't ever think about the score again! It will be an awesome mount so don't give a second thought to what could have been. Hopefully you didn't ruin too much meat shooting him in the A$$(lol) but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

30-30

Congratulations stinky on a great bull; it sure was entertaining following you on your hunt. It was good that your patience paid off. Were your wife and kids able to be with you when you shot this big boy? I hope so, because for me that would have been the icing on the cake.

Couldn't you talk Bessy into coming back to MM? We miss the cat.

Stinky how the hell did that bull not see your big arse with no camo!!!Lets see some pics of you carrying the hole thing out on your back! screw quartering!! Nice bull, glad you got it done, you had me worried for a while.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-21-09 AT 02:28PM (MST)[p]That is Un-BULL-ievable!!!

I killed a Bull just like that in my dreams the other night...LoL!

Thank You for all of the updates and keeping us on the edge of our seats! We were all rooting for your success!

One of the things I like most about this story and all of the threads before it, are all the ups and downs and you STILL SUCEEDED! I appreciate that fact that you didn't "Sugar Coat" how many shots and misses you had & how you kept us updated on bulls you passed and all of the lulls etc. Way to stick with it and get your dream bull and make friends that'll last a lifetime!!

?-Erick-> ?

Stinky,
Paul is an old friend and will do a great job on that bull. He repaired a big broken point buck of mine a few years ago. I'll take Bridger over there and take a look at him. He and I have been following your hunt the whole way. By the way, Bridger would not have been ready for the antelope hunt anyway because of health issues.

Stinker,
You're the Man!!! Hats off to Dougo and the team!! Guess I owe you ..... punk!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!! Double or nothing in Cortez?????

stinky congrats man!!!! great bull! sounds like a heck of a time!

lce.... u got it. u can just bring 50 to colorado. intrest is a beeotch lol!

i also did not have my wife n kids at the kill site. far to rugged of a mountain for them. however we all had a blast. bessy, would u mind posting once on here so that we can complete this story?

im heading back home now. gonna stop for the night in flagstaff then off to my own bed on tuesday.

That is one pretty bull. Its a shame he was broken so bad but oh well. Congratulations! I know there are many who were not even there that will never forget your hunt.

Drive safely stinky. I sure wished I was there, but cannot keep up any more. Your bull is awesome and I dont cae about the breaks. You have had so much crap on your plate since this started, but good thing Doug and Ray helped pull this off. You have lots of Utarded friends so come back next year? I know you now have the Dutton love/hate relationship.

Screw the idiots Tony. I am so happy this worked out. Glad for so many reasons on so many levels. Congrats buddy!

Nice work stinky. That is a good looking bull. It's good to see you not ashamed to tell the story like it is. I think it's great to see that we can still get excited enough to take us out of our element. Great story. One more thing, next time try to smile for the photo guys. :)

It's been said 100 times, but I really enjoyed following along on this hunt!! I also really liked the no BS description from stinky on the bull fever and how it all went down! I think people really suger coat stories sometimes and I think it takes away from the true story. Once again, thanks for sharing this hunt with everybody!

Wow Stinky looks like you have a fan on your hands! Probably a regular on MM that slid in on another user name! What a tool!

Maybe we should call him no balls crosshairs?

Hey Crosshair.. what's with the Gay Bitchslap on old Stinky ? He did quite well.. He has been hounded and ridiculed for many months over this hunt.... and you are not Man enough to post under your regular name ? Your nothing more than a cowardly sleezeball.... hope your outed from your closet.

I think its Great that Bessy even played a part on this hunt.. really didn't like his comment that he would be staying away.. he really made these boards entertaining even if he did ruffle a few feathers.

Destiny

PS... I can't wait to see the repair job... still debating on repairing my set of antlers from last years bull.

crosshair. It was very polite of you to send the sherrif/your father to camp. He was a very nice, very polite man. I hope one day you decide to try and make him proud. You are his son and he will sit and wait for you to turn into the person he knows you are capable of being. Let the hatred go and see how good it feels to start being gracious and giving in life. The hate only eats at you and its just not good. There may be a lot of folks in that area that don't like you but you can change that image forever when you decide. Regardless of your hate for me I wish you the best and will include you in my prayers. Don't continue down the path your on. Hatred will eat you from the inside out. Let it go and turn into a true sportsman, its in you. I know it is because there's no such thing as a bad hunter in my books. Best of luck to you in the future. Please, make your father proud. He's a good man!

As far as the rest of the hunt goes..... I'm winding down. In flagstaff now in bed at a motel. My horns are on the floor next to me. Here are some parting shots of the family and camp.

Bessy, thank you very much for bringing closure to the post. Having the legend himself there and realizing what an absolutely absurd hunter he is gave me a totally new respect for the man! Mr. BESS..... Thank you, for everything!

Great hunt Stinky, naked eye monster at 600 yds is a keeper anytime.I've had the bull/buck fever several times-it never goes away! thankgod

if you have time , check out Signature taxidermy there in Flagstaff. He's well known, huge shop with mounts from all over the world, and just finished my Calif goodale buck(x9b).Has 400 class bulls working on now.Steve and Heidi own the joint.Won't be disappointed just to say hello.
Ihave 11 points to think about for next year.Since archery is so early(no rut/hot)-may go for the rifle hunt.

Congrats and great pics

Those are some memories that are going to be hard to forget!

Thanks for posting and sharing your hunt. It was fun reading them.

I believe the national economy took a drop while all the elk nuts at work were reading your post.

Stinky, better hope mom does not get a peek at those stinky-tennis-shoe-stompers.

Actually, for a week in the Dutton those look pretty clean... but tennis shoes? Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun down there.

Stinky, I've followed the story of your hunt for months now and must say it's been very interesting and, for the most part, i have enjoyed it.

Great Bull!! I really like all the pic's. Congrats to you and the crew for keeping us entertained and for getting it done!!

Also, Glad to hear that Bobcatbess made a showing and played a roll in your success!!

Joey

Congrats on an incredible bull. Hope I get the chance to hunt Utah some day, sounds like an incredible time. I'll second the above comment on Signature Taxidermy in Flagstaff. Steve and his son did a shoulder mount for me back in 2001 and a few European mounts since. Very nice people and awesome work. I enjoy just stopping by there when ever I'm passing through just to see what is in the shop. Once again, great job.

rofl. i wasnt aware that i wasnt wearing shoes in that pic. i had them off and was taking mor cactus thorns out. that was the picture just after slammy did surgery on me. i had just finished an 8 mile grueling hike and polopped down on a steep mountain side. my 60 lb sack drug me down the hill backwards right through a huge cactus oatch i hadnt seen. i had thorns literally from head to toe. all on the back and back of my neck n legs. i couldnt reach any of them. slammt picked me up at the bottom of the moutain with new clothes n tweezers. i was a very gay sight to say the least lol. as for the shoes.... i e tried every boot imaginable and cant find a pair that wont leave blisters. so tennis shoes it is. just too comfy lol

Great bull and great stories. Thanks for sharing with us droolers.
BTW, you forgot to tell mrs. sticky that is was gonna be 80 degress and she didn't need the snow boots. You son has good taste in fottball teams too. Go Broncos!!!

good bull stinky, I'm sure you are glad it's not a "spindly 441 beaver bull".............................................

GREAT JOB GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful Bull ..................

It is always great to see family photos on the mountain. Looks like you have a great family.

stinky,

I am still amazed you guys hit it as hard as you did for 2 weeks. Dutton is a rough ol mountain! I am sure you know that now. Dont worry about the idiot who cannot have a little internet fun or appreciate some good stories or a fun hunt. I enjoyed the daily phone calls, updates, and pep talks on the phone. One thing about hunting is when you are persistant good things happen. I kept waiting to hear someone in camp call "uncle" but you guys never wavered.

In Utah just because you draw a rifle tag it does not mean you are entitled to a 400 bull. They are very rare and they take a lot of work and some good luck. It pisses me off when people see a pic of a big Utah bull and they automatically think a 380 is a given. I dont know about other units, but Dutton is a chore. Very rewarding hunt in my eyes. I also think it is very cool QTPIE and your kids were there. Sure makes getting back to camp each night relaxing.
