this past season,i and 4 other guys put in for a montana non-resident deer license. i am happy to say that we were both successful in drawing our tags and getting 5 nice bucks. from what i read and here though,it seems that generally non-residents have between a 10-20% chance of drawing a license on a individual basis. how much do you think it helps to have a full party of 5? with any one person having a 15% chance i would like to think that as a group that increases your chances significantly. wouldn't it be like 1 person having 4 bonus points?

I dont think it works like that. We have a point system in Washington and they say in the FAQ that theres no advantage of putting in as a group. If there down to the last 4 tags and your name gets pulled, you aint huntin. You would think there is but i dont know.

Kirk is right...it doesn't work like that. In fact, as he said, your odds may be worse if you put in as a group.

rifleman,
The odds may be worse, but not by a whole heck of a lot. The odds are better that everyone in the group will draw a license.

The way I understand it is... if you put in as a party your party gets one name in the 'hat'... so if that number gets pulled you all get a tag. With points they average the points and thats how many times your party gets into the drawing... so if your average is 2 points you get in once for that year and two more times for the points.

I've only applied as a party on a lope tag as a resident, and we really didn't need to because it would have been a 100% chance... all we did was save a few stamps. ;)

Too bad they don't do it like WY where if your group of 4 isdrawn on the last tag, they will simply issue 3 more. SAme odds whether applying as a group or single
