Any updates on the Wyo. guy who paid $200,000 for the Utah Gov. Elk Tag? Heard he bought it for his 14(?) yr old boy.
Mossback was to guide them.

Some great bulls have been found but he hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

Money is a relative thing, all depends on how much you have. If you were a bajillionaire, you might do the same thing. The questions is would you feel good about it.

Sounds like a good experiment, and I am willing to offer my services. You guys front the money and I will do the deed and let you know if I feel good about it!!!! Promise I will be honest.......

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

No elk in the world is worth 200 thousand dollars! I don't care how much money you have.

It just proves that there are people out there with more money than brains.

Some of my friends think i'm crazy for spending almost $2000 on some swarovski binos when I can get some for $100. Like someone else said it depends on how much you have.

Spend $200,000 on a elk hunt for your kid and get a tax write off sounds good. Or leave it in the bank and die and let the Gov tax the crap out of it?

It's not your money so who cares how he spends his own money.

"It just proves that there are people out there with more money than brains".

If your so smart wheres your money? Just go back to working your job for 40k a year and feel good about yourself because you wouldn't pay 200k for an elk tag.

Chances are that guy is as smart as they come to have that much money. He worked hard for a living, and now he has the money to enjoy doing what you could only dream about.

Sounds like he's a pretty smart guy to me.

The gentleman that has this tag ran into a problem he spent all his money on the tag and now doesn't have enough money to ship the bull to Utah and release it into the wild so he can become the next world record holder, I mean he HAS to get something bigger than the Spider Bull! Just one day I would love to see somebody with all this money that is really donating to Utahs wildlife fund shoot a spike, thats what I would do then you some of you can say he has seen alot of great spikes but hasn't pulled the trigger yet. This stuff gets funnier every year!

spotit1st,
would you shoot a spike on your tag? So why would you want them to? Would taking a spike be any different than a big bull? Maybe that spike would of grown up to be a huge bull and a 12 year old would get it? How do you know?

How does it get "funnier" every year? To me it seems like they post less and less about it every year. I guess that makes it "funnier"?

Please elaborate why you feel that way or just post you are jealous that you can't afford to hunt big bulls every year. Its ok. I know I'm jealous that I can't and I'm ok with that.

Hell if I had the money I would much rather spend it on an elk hunt than a car or boat.

Especially with my luck I would be driving my 200,000 dollar car and some jackass in a 1975 datsun would run into me and total it. Chances are no insurance or definately not enough coverage. So there I sit with an expensive chunk of metal!

I would take my chances on a hunt! Good luck to the hunters!

If I had millions I would buy every freaking tag under the sun. And I would kill some of the biggest animals. And I would smile and enjoy every minute of it while I sit back and listen to all those that gripe and think its stupid. Then I would go buy some more great tags and post more pics for people to gripe about. And I would smile all over again.

+1 dry_boot! If i had millions...Sweet topic. I get in on some awesome fishing trips as well...but i don't so i have to go about the game a bit different. As long as the "money thing" doesn't get too outa hand and every day Joey's like me can still afford to hunt, you're not gonna see me complaining about programs like Govenors tags.

+1 also on Wybhtn's comments! Well said!!

>I am eagerly waiting to see
>a 200k elk

I think it's more about a father/son experience they both will remember for the rest of their lives while at the same time, giving to Utah's wildlife.

Ahhh.... But you're wrong. Simple economics my friend; If someone is willing to pay $200K, then the tag is worth $200K. ;-) Only time will tell whether there is actually an elk worth that much...

Regarding the money & brains thing, I'd be willing to bet that who ever bought the tag has more of both than I do!!! :7:7

I'm all for Gov. tags so long as the money goes to conservation of the species . . . If someone bought me the hunt I would go, no question.

I wish the tags went for more than $200k cause all the money goes back to the Wildlife so these people bitchin can have better hunting opportunity's

I stand by what I said.

Lets see, $200,000 = 1 elk or $200,000 = every big game species in Alaska and Canada.

What would you do?
