Found out I drew a LE archery elk tag for Utah's Book Cliffs Bitter Creek unit. Pretty excited to say the least!

Having never laid eyes on the area, would love to hear some of your experiences in the Books.

Thanks,
Paul

Having never laid eyes on it, unless you are willing and able to do a lot of scouting, I'd call Shawn Labrum of Wild Mountain Guide Service and book a scouting/drop camp package.

I also have the same tag, I will be there for the majority of the hunt. I also have not been to the area, but the MM members were very nice and gave me some good areas to start scouting. It is going to be a fun hunt...

Congrats

I drew that tag last year!! It is a great tag and tons of bulls, if you have not been down there you could check with the best guide out there Clay Mechacknie, his email is bookcliffshunting.com he lives in main canyon and nobody knows the area as good as him. But you have a great tag congrats its an awesome area.

I appreciate the advice guys. Guess my "having never laid eyes on the Books" comment was somewhat misleading though.

Living in Indiana, most of my Western hunts are in areas I've never laid eyes on. Between now and September, I will Google Earth the Books for hours on end, pour over every map I can get my hands on, and learn what I can from friends that have hunted the Books. I have some sky miles to burn, so a long summer weekend in the Books is not out of the question.

My hunt is tentatively plannned for fifteen full hunting days, plus travel time. Basically, I plan to be hunting the bulk of the September season.

Congrats on your tag Elkhunter96. Maybe we'll cross paths on the mountain?

huntinfool201, glad to see your enthusiasm for this tag...the year AFTER you drew it. Would love to hear about your hunt and maybe see a photo or two?

You see, the GOOD news is, I found out about this hunt four months in advance. The BAD news is, I found out about this hunt four months in advance! You know what I mean....

Thanks again,
Paul

Enjoy, and good luck. Let us hear about your hunt.

I don't check CCs so maybe i have the muzzy tag and just don't know it yet. If so, leave me one.

I will be there from September 2nd until the end of the hunt, unless I get lucky sooner than the end. I live about four hours from the area, so I will spend some time scouting and learning the area in the summer. But, from past experience, the elk will move some once the hunt starts and the rut kicks in. Luckily, several members on here gave me some spots to check out where they have hunted LE elk in the past. Sounds like it is going to be a great area with plenty of good bulls to chase...

Good luck and let me know if you would like to cross paths, I will be there.

Bryce
