I live and work in SW North Dakota, and though, it has been dry in a lot of the western part of the state, some places are in really good shape. Around Bowman and Beach (parts of Bowman County and western Golden Valley Counties) the farmers have some of the best crops on record. In the Killdeer area they are also on the wet side. Most of the rest of ND, even east of the Missouri where they are usually too wet, are very dry. On Wednesday my thermometer recorded a high of 109 and there were probably 20 fires or so in the two counties that I work in (Stark and Billings). We did get a little rain on Wednesday though, and the extended forecast is saying that within the next two weeks we should be getting some more rain, but as for now most everything looks like it does in about the end of August.
When are you coming out here, I've been thinking about going out for a couple of days during the early part of the bow season if I can get away.
