Utah Manti Bull

I shot this bull Monday night. We called him out of the wallow and he came running to the call like a galloping horse. If you have seen the Primos videos he was the " Peppy La Pew" bull. I was able to stop him with a "hey" shot him at 20 yards. A big thanks to Ryan Nelson for the great calling and help.

On a side note, I have learned a very valuable lesson this year about me and my attitude of hunting. It has taken me 3 days to be happy with this bull, and let me explain why. I have been bitten by the score bug. What I mean by this is that I had an incredible hunt. It was everything that I had planned on and more, but because the bull doesn't score 350 or bigger I was disappointed and didn't enjoy the good times with friends and a charging bull stopping at 20 yards for a broadside shot.

Hopefully, someone will also get rid of the score bug and remember to enjoy the great friends and the joys of hunting and not just the score. I am going to change my attitude of hunting back to the experience and get rid of this obsession with score. How about you?

That is a great bull! There's nothing like a bull charging in when you have a bow in your hand! Congrats! I'd be very happy with that bull! Glad your coming back to reality.

That is a great bull and nothing to be ashamed of one bit! I am glad to hear of your sucess! I don't know if any hints I gave ya helped on places I have seen good bulls on that unit (I hope they did). Great job on a great bull and awesome experience! I hope I can take your lesson on my dutton muzzy hunt and not be dissapointed with less than a 350 bull because that is where I have my sights set and need to tell myself to just take it all in regardless of the outcome!

I agree! We are all too hung up on the darn score. We let the tape tell us if we had a good hunt. Sad but true.

Helluva bull, darn sweet hunt, screw the score!

Congratulations on a great bull and now sit back and enjoy your hunt!

Nice bull. Congrats
I know exactly how you feel on the score thing.I went through the same thing last year with my bull.I was happy to have him but still wonder what if I would have hunted past the 2nd day.

most people honestly cant tell the difference between a 310 bull and a 350 bull especially when they get close.

great bull with a bow

There are no big bucks in Utah! LOL

Hey Dr great looking bull and you are so right about the score, I like them all, not a real picky hunter I will shoot them as they trip my trigger, if he looks nice he in trouble. I like the way your bull looks so I would shoot him too. I'm really hung up big Whaletail's so I will kill 5x5 that are good size.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

That is a nice bull
And that is a great comment on the score bug its something that has bit me more then once

That is a dang good bull! I can help with the score bug, as it has never bit me. Immune to the sucker I guess. What I'm willing to do is shoot bulls like the one you just got, so you don't get bummered! LOL!!

That one looks like he really liked sittin in the mud. Great archery bull. And i like your mind set.

You must not of had bull fever, you put a nice shot right in the boiler room. Congratulations!

Beautiful Bull and a great shot!!!! Bigtime Congrats. I might have to look into those Wacums. Looks like the same size hole as my Rage makes.

Great bull and hunt. You are so right about the score bug and the disappointment of a trophy that is less than a preconceived number. To me, comradery is most meaningful, along with a safe hunt. It's always nice to fill your tag, but more important to share the good times with good friends and family. One day you wake up, and they're gone. It's never the same again and leaves a void on your hunts. Congrats on a great time and hunt!

Congrats on the bull. I would of been stoked to shoot that bull with my bow on the manti. My brother had the exact same tag you did this year and he didn't tag out. We hunted our butts off and he was on the mountain for 15+ days plus some evenings after work. We had a blast and had many close calls with decent bulls but we just couldn't get all the pieces to come together.
He even hit a 350+ bull in the front shoulder. His arrow got about 8 inches of penetration and then fell out. It bent the heck out of his broadhead. We spent days looking for blood and didn't find a drop.

I'm not even going to bring a tape with me on my Monroe ML hunt. I'm just going to hunt my guts out, have a great 14 day camping trip with friends and family, and hopefully kill the biggest bull on the mountain. What he scores won't matter at all.

Doc. you have to remember the trophy is in the eye of the beholder. That bull is my dream bull and a kill with a bow is even sweeter.

It's a dark, dark day for hunting when guy can't be happy about sticking a bull like that. Score shmore. I'm not much into elk but if I ever kill a bull like that I'm gonna be happy.
