Tell me about Roosevelts

I took my first elk with a bow last year in Utah and currently have max points in California which I plan on using for an archery Tule hunt. I would love to complete the "Grand Slam" of elk with my bow. Even better if they were all DIY and P&Y. What would be my best bet for hunting Roosies in the next 10-15 years (I'm 42). What states should I be looking at for building points. What is the best state for a DIY OTC. I'll need a guide in BC or Alaska and I'll never draw a second tag in California, so I guess that leaves me with Oregon or Washington? Any specific counties that would give me a good chance? I usually hunt solo and can tell I'm slowing down a bit. Glad to hear any suggestions.

Thanks, Joe

LAST EDITED ON May-16-11 AT 12:36PM (MST)[p]Pretty simple Oregon Bow OTC no need for points. You can start at the California line and drive North up I-5 all is open and general elk tag except for the Powers Hunt Unit which is draw only a few of the units are three point or better bull but you stand a chance at harvesting a bull if you put in the time to research and understand what all is going on here in Oregon.

high desert is right on. if i were you, as a NON-resident, i would stay away from the oregon points game. research it- as a resident of oregon, that hunts out of state often, i am ashamed at my home state the way they treat non-residents.
Plus, there really is a fair chance at a mature bull on the general hunts.

Thanks guys. Not many places you can still hunt OTC and have a decent chance but sounds like the place. Time to upgrade the rain gear.

Washington is OTC for NR also & most units west of I-5 are open, exceptions are the L/E draw hunts. I think all are 3 pt or better.
