what happened to mossback?

I've been watching these forums this year and last year and have noticed that the public land hunters are still taking down big bulls and mossback isn't.

It seems to me that mossback used to have the best guides in the state and if a unit had a 400" bull mossbacks guys were on it. Well, I've been talking to him these last two years and watching what he's been killing. He hasn't been seeing much in the way of 400 inch bulls in utah and hasn't even been able to get his hunters on any, including the governors tag holders.

One would think that if doyle isn't finding/taking 400 inch bulls that utah just doesn't have any. Well I think its kinda wierd that pahvant, dutton, boulder, sw desert, and san juan are still kicking out 400 inch bulls. Sure they aren't everywhere but if doyle was the type of guide he once was don't you think he would have some of these bulls on the ground? I know he's putting arizona 400's on the ground but I think most people with an arizona governors tag could do the same also. I kinda think the glory days of mossback are over and was wondering if you guys think the same. Did his best guides move on? Did something change in his organization? why isn't he finding theses 400's? I thought he was suppose to be the go to guy if you wanted a big bull. Seems to me like Utah no longer has a guy who can get it done. Am I wrong?

NM's goto guy was Ross Johnson. He died and still noone has filled his shoes. I know its a dumb subject but its the off season and I was just brain farting of what has happened with the mossback organization. Seems they can't kill big animals unless its on an island mimicking a high fence hunt or its in arizona with a year long tag. What are your thoughts?

They have depleted the natural resorces. They found a way to make a buck by commercially hunting our (we the peoples) public game. To a point where he himself said I will not guide the governers tag this year . I am not saying they did anything illegal. They just found a loop hole in the system for there own benefit.

Maybe with out your $$$$$$$$$$$$$ stinky, Doyle can't afford to pay his guides to find 400" bulls.

After all your the richest guy on this site just ask yourself.

What a dumb post, Stirring the pot. That guy and his guides kills the biggest elk and deer and he still can't catch a break.
I don't know him-Just calling it like it is. He doesn't have to post picture of every bull or buck that he kills, We all know he gets it done.

Maybe all of his hunters are listening to how the state is going downhill and are not willing to pass up a 385 bull....

I've hunted with him once and the guy really is a super nice guy. I just had him painted as a guy who had all the right people and would know if there was a big bull and have one of his hunters on it. I figure when denny austead isnt taking 400 inchers that either the guides that were scroungin up all these bull left or simply the herd isn't what it was. not meaning it went down hill but almost fell off the map. Even if that is the case I stil figured doyle to be the guy that could come up with the monsters. I also don't see what money has to do with having the answers to my original question but I'm glad to know some of you think money relates to IQ. Guess im a genius and didn't know it.

Some of you people on here and your judgmental attitudes towards money = ##### is just down right funny. Guess I will keep playing the ##### part so as not to let all you selfriteous folks down.

It's still hunting and sometimes you get the bull and sometimes someone else gets the bull. Saw some nice elk taken this year by family hunters. Good on them. Nice to see someone else take the good ones.

Deffinetly no big bulls taken by Mossback this year, but he did get some nice deer. Of course a 2 year old could of went out onto Antelope Island and found those bruisers. I would like to give a High 5 to all the familys out there helping each other out and killing nice bucks and bulls this year. Thats what hunting is about spending once in a lifetime events with your family not lifetime savings for a guide who will more than likely never have to hear from you again unless the check bounces or you buy another tag.

I don't think this post is intended to stir the pot but the author makes a good point, bulls over 400 were killed this year by the average joe who didn't hire a guide and I don't think Mossback killed even 1 400 incher this season.

"Deffinetly no big bulls taken by Mossback this year"

Man, come on! Not every kill is posted on mm. Bucks&Bulls whacked some giants this year as well and you won't see them on the web. One thing is a lot of "average joe's" killed some dandy bulls this year. I don't believe the late dutton bull is 390.. maybe 380 something, just my oppinion, but thats two 380+ bulls taken down there that I know of. I know of 0 400 inches coming from there.

I believe more than "1" 400 incher hit the dirt this year.. Here are 3 over 400. Plus a few other animals. I believe Team MossBack has guided 7 bucks over 230 inches all the way up to 283 inches. Not counting all the bucks over 200.... I have seen some awesome management bucks too.

Tony, do you really think something happened? All of Doyles guides are still there. Reed has been kicking some butt on the elk hunts. And Kalan, Wayne, and Cameron are finding some giant bucks. Doyle has been everywhere. He told me he spent 40 days on Antelope Island alone. I think they have had a great year!

It's hard to believe just 3 years ago the new world record was killed.

I stop and think about Qtips hunt last year. You worked your arse off to get a shooter and had plenty of help. Ever bit as good as Mossback. And some inside info from Mossback guides. Them guys are all in bed. Not to mention names like bcbess. Any way my point Ut DWR. The number one is number of tags vs. a few years ago. Now they have Early hunts, late hunts, archery hunts, Preimum hunts, and Muzz Hunts, not to mention cow hunts, Now some of the preimum units have Spike hunts and the tag numbers are out of sight. Where the same unit a few years ago only had minimal tags just a few seasons ago. Say like the Manti a few years back when Mossback killed one of their first Monster bulls. That unit only had a total of 40-50 tags now has 4 seasons and 80- 100 tags a season. Now 2-300 hunters out in March scouting pushing them to no end. Lets see 12 spotters per bull and 3 months scouting. The bulls will get close to some one.
Everyone Names the bull they got on Trail Cam so when you see it you know his score. Post em up on MM now every Tom ##### and Harry knows his where abouts. Oh yeah put a reward on the biggest bull and see how many guides you get.

Hey stinkbug!
I think your next MOSSBACK Hunt just went up another 5K:D
Our DWR is in the Process of ####ing Our LE Units over.
Ya,We still got a few 400"ers,but not near what we once had a few years ago.

I seen 3 different Herds of Elk in an LE Elk Unit yesterday, not one f'n Spike left with their Mothers, not even one, what'ya think that'll do to future Bull crops?

Go ahead DAX,tell me I'm not a DWR Biologist!

Hot Dog,Hot Damn,I love this Ameri-can

for god sake brandon. just cuz ur dutton pisscutter was suckin on his mama when u shot him dont mean u gotta be hatin that other guys bull. b&b did kill big bulls but not on public. btw did doyle flip when he saw mr 3rds rofl! whats bad brandon is that u baited dutton bulls all year long with cop donuts and u still couldnt break that 200 mark on ur bull lol.

seriously though, my point was that ive always thot doyle may just know something about big bulls that the restbof us dont and that he had a way of pulling rabbits outa his arse but the last two years have been brutal to him. i was only curious as to any changes. but if all his guides are still there(at least the ones worth a #####) then i guess mossback is just fallin on hard times just like utahs #####*ed up elk herd. btw brandon i still hate ur deer. ur always killin nice deer. so not fair. specially not for a donut eater!

WHAT??? DO NOT, ever dizzzz the stinkysomper!!! :):)

maybe there like all the 400 class bulls that were in unit 34 they just got up and moved.Or another outfitter scared them away right when his hunters were going to shoot. That could happen

I dont even know you Stinky and I'm going to go ahead and call you a retard. Can't any of you mind your own and stop crying about Doyle. Can we please see some pictures of all the 400 bulls you have guided Stinkdink?

Maybe he's tired of all the public critisism he's been getting and is changing his ways to a more "private" way of operating his business.
I know first hand that once an outfitter is well established, he doesn't need to advertise his stuff all over the internet, the hunts sell themselves through word of mouth and a good solid reputation. Mossback is definately at that point now and has been for quite a while.
Posting pics of all the animals on a public forum is dangerous, it invites not only critisism, but tresspassing (if your operating on private land) and poaching.
Some of us just have to keep a zipped lip on our success and only share with people we trust ;-)

Here's my opinion on why mossback hasn't been killing big bulls lately. I think a lot of people are starting to keep quiet about what they find. I know in years past someone would find a giant bull then tell one of the "team mossback" guys . Then they would go investigate it kill the bull and then they get all the credit. I think its leaving a bad taste in the mouth of the average guy who realizes mossback is making money off of them .

No-one stays on top forever, I'm sure he will be back on top sooner or later. You don't see the same team winning the Superbowl every year. He had a long run,But make no doubt he will be out there finding and killing big elk and deer.IMHO

Doyle said on his website that he wouldn't be guiding the gov tag this year... hope he is a man of his word

It was a big bodied 2 point. (this is my signature)

how about everyone here that has something to say backs up their comments with pictures and specific examples from the last two years. you guys are unfounded in most of what you say.

Huh? You just proved stinkys whole point. There isn't any pictures because they haven't killed anything

Another tard Mossback isn't on here saying they killed anything so they dont need to back it up. You guys should hunt more and talk less. It will make no impact on your personal lives if Doyle does or does not kill 400in bulls so dont worry about it Stinkdink.

If Doyle spent 40 days on AI, it sounds like he "took a break" to me. Can you imagine the pressure he has been under the past few years? Not only finding big animals for his clients, but dealing with all the political BS. Plus it's expected that he will just keep going with bigger and bigger animals. He kind of unintentionally created a monster, if you think about it.

If I could afford it, I would hire Doyle to guide me to a "real nice bull elk", as I would be thrilled with that. But only if Slamdunk and AWHOLELOTABULL(Jim)were already booked.:)

I would invite Bess and rutnbuck for friendship, and stinkystomper to pack out my animal. Stinky could have his own tent on the other side of camp. In fact he could stay in camp until we call him on the radio.

Eel

Eel, you're welcome in my camp anytime, hunting or not. As far as AWLB, I couldn't think of a better guy to partner up with and go into business, he's a top notch outfitter and an even better example of humanity :)

who? mossback or everyone else?

most if not all are full of it on this www. stinky and western are obviously misinformed as well as a few others.

stinky said, "I know he's putting arizona 400's on the ground but I think most people with an arizona governors tag could do the same also."

Western said, "Huh? You just proved stinkys whole point. There isn't any pictures because they haven't killed anything.

Stinky and Western, take a look at this link and read a little, lol. MossbackAz killed 3 400+ bulls last yr. not on the auction tag, one bow, one early rifle, and one late rifle. They also killed two high 380's, both with archery equipment, 5 370's, two with archery and one with muzzleloader, and several more 360+ bulls. Oh and yes they killed another 400+ typical with the auction tag, lol... eat your heart out. Oh and yes, they would have killed 5 400+ bulls if i hadn't have choked on a giant typical bull but at least they got to pick up his sheds, lol lol lol.....

http://mossbackarizonahunts.blogspo...-max=2011-01-01T00:00:00-07:00&max-results=33

mossback az. is a small group of guys, around 6-8 guides, that take less than 15 hunters a/yr. they usually have 100% success rate and kill several of the top end bulls killed in arizona yr. in and yr. out. they scout more than anyone i know and run a very tight low key business.

what do you say stinky and western or others? BTW, they have killed yes two auction bulls this year that were well over 400" and are still hunting bulls. I'll give you a tally as to how the season went when it's over. It might be they take another 400" bull in the next 4 days. it depends on if he comes out of the thick stuff or not, LOL.....but disregard the first two 400" bulls they killed this year, they run around all over and with a gov tag it's easy, right stinky...

Looks like they did good in Arizona . I didn't even know there was a mossback Arizona I was talking about Utah elk.

fair enough. that's b/c they keep low profile and operate a much smaller organization than mossback utah. as for what mossback ut has or has not killed this year for bulls i can't say. i have no idea. i know they have been killing the junk out of giant mule deer this year and no matter what they seem to focus on they succeed with a great group of guys.

slammy just answered my question. i know of guides who dont advertise. they kill tremendous bulls every year and their reputation alone sells their tags. those guys only cater to the richest of the rich. it maybe that mossback only takes care of a select few clients now and thats it. that makes more sense than just figuring hes not getting it done lately.

I think If I was moss I would pack up shop and move to AZ seems like the arizona program is killing it more and more than the ut. And only guide the Henries and Antelope Island. I know he was upset about the number of cow and spike tags and elected to no longer guide the governors tag. Which I dont understand which is still a check cause a rich guy always buys it so you would think it would be a great tip as well. I cant really say where I stand on mossback I do my huntin he does his and he puts alot of time into it and kills some giant animals.

LOL stinky, please clarify. UT or AZ? the az. division does not cater to anyone but those that have tags. being that az. only gives two auction based elk hunts/yr. most of their business is from public land hunters. in addition, mossback az. doesn't contract with private land owners. they offer strictly public land hunts... you have just as good as chance as the "rich" guy you are referring to for a hunt with them... lol, that is if you wanted a big bull.
