UNIT 16D archery

well this might make a few of you guys sick but im a die hard unit 34 elk hunter here in NM. As hard as it was to not put it down as my first choice knowing how hard 16D is to draw i did it not expecting to draw for the next 6 or 7 years. Welp my first year i put in i drew and i am a real avid hunter but i am wondering if anyone has hunted this unit and has any pointers on where to start me and a buddy are packin in and are not scared to sleep on the ground so anything will help. We are working on going up a couple weekends in august and the first weekend in september to scout. And if anyone needs help with unit 34 for elk i know the place like the back of my hand and unit 31 or 32 for deer there are some monster muleys here

You wont need to pack in anywhere. Big bulls scattered all over the unit, and many off well traveled roads. Try around o bar o mountain and along the 16E border. Good luck, its going to be fun.

Well beings as I almost live i 34 I drew the muzzy tag. that makes 3 years straight for low odds tags for me. hahahahahahahaha, however im still shadowing a bruiser so we'll see.

Anyways aragon always has boat loads of really big bulls around it. Just strap a bail of hay to your back and walk down the side of the road at 2am. You will get one I promise.

Haha nice lets hope theres a full moon but if u need some help let me know i dont charge much at all and with muzzeloader no doubt you would get a shot off and honestly ive always wanted to be there during the muzzeloader only taken guys with bows and rifle

I hunted 16D last year during the first rifle. As mentioned previously - no need to backpack in. I found elk pretty much in every area I looked.

Which archery season did you draw?

I dont think 16d has a muzz hunt, bulls everywhere you look, no need to worry about packing in, my youngest bro has the 3rd archery hunt also this is his 3rd tag in the last 6 years in D, oh and I get to go and call for him, wooohooo

I was talkin about in unit 34 id help him out but looks like pretty much anywhere holds some bulls i got the whole hunt of already for work so im huntin for 360+ for the first half then droppin it down to 320" so fingers crossed

i drew the second sept 11-18 but im going to be up there the 9th-18th im going up middle of june to set up some game cameras over some tanks 3-4 miles off the road then go back up in july check them out same thing in august spend the weekends up there check out some spots while im there but yeah ill help yall out
