hi everyone,
i am new to this site but i drew deer tags for area 43-46 and just wondering if anyone know of some spots to scout out before the hunt.i have always hunted northern nevada and this will be my first venture away from the areas i am familar with.any advise would be helpful.

The Sonomas probabbly have the most deer, but also the most people and a lot of road access on top. I saw two really promissing bucks up there last week. One buck already had 6 inch deep fronts forks on June 25th. I'm not as famialar with the other ranges, but have always wanted to hunt the Tobins because of the lack of road access. Send me a PM with your season dates and any other questions.

The tobins are split by the road known as Golconda Summit. Just north of that road is a ranch, name starts with a V but I want to say vesque or something like that. There is a road that goes around the north side of the ranch and can be accessed by going up this ranches drive way then going to the left. This road takes you into the tobins and if you look way up on the left of the mountain there is a huge rock face. A few yrs ago a plane crashed up there so they bulldozed a road to recover the plane. Now what guys do according to the ranchers is drive their atvs along this road then they go all the way to the top and drive along the crest of the tobins hunting off both sides. So....it only appears to be roadless on a map.

By the way. These ranchers do not like rifle hunters. Yrs ago they used to have a depredation hunt but the hunt was cancelled because they caught guys stealing equipment, cutting fences, and generally abusing the privilege of hunting their land.
