Police were searching for a soldier (David Munis) with sniper training who they suspect shot his wife to death while she sang with a band in a restaurant and bar.

Robin Munis was shot in the head just after midnight Saturday as she sang with the classic rock and country group Ty and the Twisters. Customers of the Old Chicago ran ? to a bathroom, a walk-in refrigerator and anywhere else they could find cover ? as a black pickup truck drove slowly out of the parking lot, then sped away.

Authorities believe Munis, a big hunter and avid outdoorsman, might have fled into the woods, CBS affiliate KGWN-TV reported. Police also said Munis has relatives in Montana and a friend at an army base in Kentucky who they might want to stay in touch with.

"At first we thought it was just a speaker blowing up or something. I looked over and saw her on the floor," said Travis Brooks, who had been sitting at the bar.

Brooks said he was not sure where the gunshot came from when he saw the glass door break. He and others crawled toward the kitchen and took cover in a small bathroom.

"Everyone was in shock," he said. "I don't know what to think."

Munis, 40, had recently separated from her husband, David Munis, 36. She had complained about receiving a harassing telephone call from her husband Friday, police Capt. Jeff Schulz said.

Police suspect Munis was the shooter, Schulz said, though no one has reported seeing the shot fired.

"We're not certain where he was when he took the shot," Schulz said. "It could have been in the parking lot. It could have been a long ways away. We don't know that."

Munis joined the Wyoming Army National Guard in April 2003 and came from the regular Army, where he went to sniper school, Guard spokeswoman Deidre Forster said.

Forster said Munis' job is to promote Camp Guernsey, a military training area about 100 miles north of Cheyenne. He is due to become a second lieutenant next month, she said.

Munis was filmed discussing his work in 2005 by KGWN-TV.

The shooting left members of Cheyenne's music scene stunned and saddened, reported the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. Friends described Robin Munis as a consummate professional musician, a dedicated mother, and someone who helped people who have disabilities, the paper reported.

"Robin was the kindest, warmest and most loving person," Eve Ashley, who plays electric bass with Munis' band, told the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle. "She never dwelt on the negative."

I believe that is his wife too. If he did it, what a big brave man he is! I hope they tree him like the animal he is and then shoot him out of it.

Browtine, I'm not sure what his handle was but I'm thinking
SOCIOPATH deserves consideration.

We've seen some bizarre chit become of those we've known around this place, but this has to be the most messed up ever.

A manhunt is on in Wyoming for National Guardsman David Munis, age 36. Cheyenne police believe Munis shot his wife Robin sniper-style as she was singing with a classic rock and country band at a bar. Police say that 40-year-old Robin Munis had been separated from her husband, David, for a few weeks and that she had moved out of their home. On July 13, 2007, Robin reported to authorities that she had received several harassing, but non-threatening phone calls from David.

David Munis Manhunt: National Guardsman Sniper Sought After Wife Shot

Police do believe that David Munis, who has sniper training, shot his wife. They were not sure of Munis?s location when his wife was hit, but investigators did indicate to the media that the bullet that killed Robin mid-performance could have come from the Old Chicago parking lot, reports Crime Blog US.

America's Most Wanted reports: Police believe that David Munis utilized sniper training acquired in the military to shoot Robin from as far as 100 yards away. A truck similar to the type Munis owns was seen by witnesses leaving the scene just after the shooting.

Currently, police believe that David Munis may have taken refuge in one of the region's vast national forests. Munis served in the Army before enlisting in the Wyoming National Guard in 2003. Cops say that he has been described as an avid outdoorsman and is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Can you imagine having to be one of the law enforcement officers that has to go into the woods lookings for an experienced outdoorsman and ex-army sniper! Hopefully he just ends his life or gives himself up.

I Pray that this guy does turn himself in because if he doesn't---he's gonna take some more with him.

saw it had been done, did not see he had been on here,,,, you just never know how fouled up people can be ,,,, hope they catch him without getting any of the law enforcement people hurt,,,,,

Police Find Wyoming Sniper's Pickup
Gunman David Munis Still Missing
(CBS) CHEYENNE, Wyo. Police located the pickup truck of a military sharpshooter suspected of killing his estranged wife over the weekend as she sang at a Cheyenne nightclub, but the man was nowhere in sight, Cheyenne police said Tuesday.

The search for David Munis, 36, focused Tuesday morning on a canyon area north of Laramie where the pickup was spotted Monday night, Police Lt. Jeff Shulz said.

Shulz said officers would be searching the rugged terrain by foot and a Wyoming National Guard Blackhawk helicopter would assist from the air. Knowing Munis' firearms training, the hunt has had searchers on edge.

Police don't know what kind of guns he may be armed with, but after searching his home, they assumed he had at least one high-powered rifle with him. Shulz has said the search also turned up evidence connecting Munis to the shooting, though he did not elaborate.

Authorities believe Munis, an hunter and outdoorsman, might have fled into the woods, CBS affiliate KGWN-TV reported. Police also said Munis has relatives in Montana and a friend at an army base in Kentucky who they might want to stay in touch with.

Munis has been a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard since 2003, previously in the U.S. Army and was a 2001 graduate of the Army Sniper School at Ft. Benning, Ga., according to the National Guard.

"Apprehending a man with that kind of sniper skill and the weaponry he has available to him is an extremely dangerous type of proposition," Shulz said Monday.

Robin Munis had been singing with a classic-rock and country group at the Old Chicago early Saturday when a bullet pierced a plate glass door and hit the 40-year-old in the head, killing her. Police said Monday they were securing an arrest warrant for her estranged husband charging him with homicide.

John Plaster, a sniper instructor for military and law enforcement agencies around the country and author of "The Ultimate Sniper," said graduates of the nation's military sniper schools are trained in evading capture.

"Clearly, they're going to have to use extreme caution, between his outdoors experience, and what he knows about camouflage, and concealment, and avoiding detection," Plaster said. But he said he would be surprised if the hunt ended in a shoot out.

"A guy like that, his enemy, in his mind, was his wife," Plaster said. "I don't think a guy like that would want to go out of his way to shoot at police. But if you corner him, you've got a very dangerous individual."

The sniper training in the Army and Marine Corps is rigorous and screens out in advance any potential thrill killers or people who seem to have emotional problems, he said. Instead, military sharpshooters think of their work in terms of saving the lives of their own troops on the battlefield.

Plaster said he believes that a highly trained soldier who snapped and killed a spouse would be likely to commit suicide. "All the honor of being a solider, of being devoted to county, and so on, that's gone," he said.

Yes Monster Mulies was listed in the article but in a good way...

"Further online research revealed apparently happier times for David and Robin."

Then it lists of a thread he wrote about. It is very sad , but if he did do it and it seems more and more like he did, then I sure hope they get to him where they can pop one into him too...It's the kid that will feel the most pain for the rest of his life, because of this whole incident..

Browtine I remember those pictures , I may have even commented on his speed goat if my memory serves me right. Very sad a member of ours has taken a turn for the worse...

I did some checking based on the dates of his trophy photos and could not find any postings by Munis describing his successful hunts. What a blessing to have a wife and son who hunt.

very sad deal, i wonder what caused him to snap and do this to a what appears to be a very loving happy hunting family. I did see his whitetail pic on Fox News last night with monstermuleys headline on it. Has anybody figured out if he posted on threads and what his name was on here or if he just emailed pictures in to Brian to post up in the photo galleries??

I just feel bad for that kid and his wife, I hope non of the police get hurt.

What a sad, sad deal...

Cops Say They Have 'Near Confession' From Alleged Wyoming Wife Killer

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

David Munis

CHEYENNE, Wyo. ? Police said Tuesday they have a "near confession" from a National Guard sharpshooter being hunted in the Wyoming wilderness in the sniper murder of his singer wife.

Cheyenne Police Capt. Jeff Schulz said investigators had discovered a note that led them to file first-degree murder charges against Davis Munis, 36. Schulz said it appeared Munis had "left the note" for investigators to find.

Police confirm that in the note, which spans five or six pages, Munis wrote reasons for wanting to kill his estranged wife, Robin. Schulz would not elaborate any more on the substance of the note.

Authorities say Munis stalked Robin Saturday night as she performed with a country band at a restaurant outside Cheyenne. Munis killed her with a single shot while she sang on stage at Old Chicago restaurant, investigators charge.

Earlier Tuesday, officials found Munis' black Dodge pickup truck in Roger's Canyon near Laramie after a tip from a caller. That caller also claimed to have spotted Munis in Laramie, about 45 miles west of where his wife was shot dead.

"He is our sole suspect right now," Schulz told FOX News. ?It's gonna be a slow, methodical, tactical search.?

Schulz said police had not yet searched the vehicle, which had National Guard license plates, but sources told FOX News that investigators had found an empty handgun case and that two canteens were missing from the truck.

"We?re presuming he's got handguns, at least one,? Schulz said, referring to the firearm missing from the truck. "He?s in a wooded canyon, a very remote area."

A Blackhawk helicopter was aiding the ground search for Munis, who was believed to be on foot.

Lead singer Ty Warner was standing next to Robin as a bullet shattered the eatery's glass door and struck her in the head as she sang Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" on stage Saturday.

?I heard a pop ? and there was a puff of smoke," said the Ty and the Twisters bandmate, adding that he thought a spilled drink on the electrical equipment had caused the smoke before realizing Robin Munis had been shot.

Warner said Munis, 40, who recently had moved out of her home with her four children during the estrangement process, continued to balance her responsibilities to her family and job as a policy analyst and to the band.

"She was a consummate professional," he said.

Police said that after searching his home, they assumed David Munis had at least one high-powered rifle with him. Schulz has said the search also turned up evidence connecting Munis to the shooting, though he did not elaborate.

He did say, however, that Munis had not touched his bank account or used his cell phone since the shooting.

Munis has been a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard since 2003, previously in the U.S. Army and was a 2001 graduate of the Army Sniper School at Ft. Benning, Ga., according to the National Guard.

"Apprehending a man with that kind of sniper skill and the weaponry he has available to him is an extremely dangerous type of proposition," Schulz said Monday.

Police said Monday they were securing an arrest warrant David Munis charging him with homicide.

Schulz said investigators were speaking to David Munis' relatives in Montana and a friend at an Army base in Kentucky with whom he had been in contact. Authorities didn't specify which base, but the Munises had lived within a few miles of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Neighbors Laura and Eddie Lopez said they didn't see any violence between the Munises, who they said were a very friendly couple.

Between them, the Munises had four children, ages 19, 17, 13 and 5.

Really sad.

Sounds like this guy wasn't planning on coming out of the Woods. I pray for the cops - that he has just done himself in.

Poor kids... I sure hope they have some close family that can help them through this... What a terrible mess...

What would posess a man so badly that he would leave 4 children without a mother or father, and mentally damage these kids for life? My prayers go out to these kids!

I just heard on Fox News that he has been found with a self inflicted chest wound. He is alive but it didn't say how serious.

Glad he was found without any further casualties.

Yep - very sad for the kids. They will end up suffering the most...

Police: Sharpshooter suspect kills self
National Guardsman accused of killing estranged wife as she sang in bar
The Associated Press
Updated: 5:51 a.m. CT July 18, 2007
LARAMIE, Wyo. - A military sharpshooter accused of killing his estranged wife as she sang at a bar died Tuesday night after being found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Wyoming Army National Guardsman David Munis was found by a search team at about 7:45 p.m. after police received an anonymous call from a man who spotted Munis at a small camping trailer in a remote area about 15 miles north of Laramie and about five miles outside the search area, Albany County Sheriff?s Lt. Michael Garcia said.

He had shot himself in the chest with a high-power rifle, Garcia said.

Munis, 36, was flown to a hospital and pronounced dead at 8:01 p.m., Garcia said.

?I'm glad it's over,? the Laramie Boomerang quoted Garcia as saying. ?The people in the community can now feel at rest, and the people in Roger?s Canyon can feel more at ease.?

Murdered on stage
Munis? estranged wife, Robin Munis, 40, was singing with a classic-rock and country group at the Old Chicago restaurant and bar early Saturday when a bullet pierced a plate glass door and hit her in the head, killing her.

About 75 heavily armed officers had been searching for Munis in a canyon area near where his pickup was spotted late Monday.

Munis apparently shot himself as searchers closed in on him, Cheyenne police Lt. Mark Munari said.

Witnesses at the hospital where Munis was taken said they saw a body covered in a tarp being taken out of a helicopter.

?We were standing outside, and we saw a helicopter come in pretty fast and land,? said Evan Maurer, who was helping to install networking and telephone lines at the emergency room. ?About eight guys in fatigues, looked like National Guardsman or Army, jumped out with M-16s.?

?They grabbed a body out of the copter and started carrying it,? Maurer said.

Munis was charged with first-degree murder earlier Tuesday.

The Munises were recently separated, and Robin Munis had contacted police just hours before the shooting to complain that he was making harassing calls to her cell phone.

Investigators said it was unclear whether the shot that killed her came from the restaurant parking lot, about 25 yards away, or from an open green space, roughly 100 yards off.

Witnesses told police that a pickup truck matching the one owned by David Munis was seen leaving the scene.

'A near-confession'
A handwritten note of about six pages, addressed to ?Everyone,? was found at Munis? home, police said Tuesday. ?I'm calling it a near-confession,? Cheyenne police Capt. Jeff Schulz said. ?He does not come out and say, ?I did it.?? The police spokesman would not give details.

On Monday night, Munis? truck was found in rugged mountains north of Laramie, about 50 miles west of Cheyenne. Police said they believed that Munis, a devoted hunter and outdoorsman, fled into terrain where his training and experience could give him the advantage.

Munis has been a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard since 2003, was previously in the Army and was a 2001 graduate of the Army Sniper School at Fort Benning, Ga., according to the National Guard.

?Apprehending a man with that kind of sniper skill and the weaponry he has available to him is an extremely dangerous type of proposition,? Schulz said earlier.

Munis was assigned to an infantry regiment at Ft. Campbell, Ky., according to Lt. Col. Kevin V. Arata, public affairs officer with the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. Arata said he couldn't determine from Munis? military records if he was ever in combat.

If they want to die, they should go find somewhere to go die alone, instead of taking other people with them.
