Here is a pic of Kami Jo's San Juan Bull. Thanks again for all the help on MM to make this hunt a success especially (elkfeet).

The week started out early for us on Wednesday before the hunt at 4 am. We met my father and his best friend in Layton and we were off. Eight long hours later we made arrived in Blanding just as a nasty thunderstorm was rolling through, we fueled up bought more ice and away we went. If anyone has taken the blue mountain road towing doubles knows that is not the smartest and quickest way to travel. We will never do that again especially after it storms, Another four hours and thirty six miles we ended up in Mormon pasture stuck in the middle of the road because the cowboys had jack knifed there truck and horse trailer in the road. That was a real treat having to unload the trailors backing the fifth wheel of the side of the road and getting eveything turned around , not a fun time. We ended up camping at the turn off to go up to horse mountain just north of Round mountain.

The next two days were spent scouting and learning the roads. To sum up the San Juan in a couple of words would be Big and Steep. Friday morning I found a great bull, watched him until he pushed his cows into thick stuff. I returned to camp to Tell Kami about the bull and that she neede to see this one. The two of us returned that evening and he was back again but stayed high and up in the trees. She feel in love with him a big 6X7. we put him to bed and heade back to camp to make a game plan.

Opening morning came and on our way just to arrive where we had last seen him to be greeted by some of Mossbacks guides and a client. Needless to say they had eyes on him from evey angle in that canyon and was able to take him just after day light. That really bummed Kami out. I just had to keep reminding her that there are plenty of bulls and we will find her one.

The next few days we had more highs and lows, Either seeing nothing and no talking to bulls eveywhere and screaming. To seeing them close but too small or hugh and in spots that would kill a single guy if he had to pack him. We saw lots of good bulls and finally made it happen on this one. The morning of day five we went just outside of camp and had three different bulls bugling so we were off. We pushed two of them up the mountain and had one coming towards us. Kami got set up and I backed out to set up away from her to draw him in. She was able to seal the deal on this one at just 20 yards. I never even saw the bull, I was on the other side of a patch of oak brush callin' when I heard her shot. I started screamin on the cow calls and got him turned around again where she was given another shot oppurtunity. Yet I still never had even seen him. She wasn't sure exactly how big he was or which direction he had run. She was afraid he was going to be small and only a five point. We searched for what seemed forever looking for a blood trail but nothing, by now she was getting emotional thinking she had missed, I went one way she went the other. Kami was able to find some blood and the track was on, we went several yards and no elk and the emotions came rolling in again. Devistated again she was all but cryin her eyes out when I found him piled up in the oak brush just feet away from us. I said he's a great bull and a 6-point. Wow and the emotions of joy set in. The fun was over and the work began. I got him caped out and the head packed out. That was not fun it kicked my butt. Kami got a good laugh out of it when I snagged him on a tree and fell over. By noon we had him quartered and back to camp.

She did an amazing job and we had a great time there and was able to meet some awesome people. Our neighbors from Grantsville and Tooele, The grandfather and family from Layton, and the cowboys from colorado that would stop by everyday to see how things were going and shot the breeze, And especially to my dad Dan Sandall and his best friend Rick Stevenson.

Since we have gotten home all she and my dad have talked about was going back, Hopefully one of them will draw again.

Congrats on getting Kami a bull. I stopped by your camp the morning that you killed. Your dad said that they had heard her shoot and then you hadn't returned to camp. I am glad she got a good bull.

Great job on a very nice bull..!! Thanks for sharing...

Y'know, someday, I'd like to happen upon the Mossback crew while we were both hunting the same animal. It could be like a race to the finish. My guess is, I could beat their hunter... :D
