I got this in Wyoming on October 16. I am mostly a bowhunter but had an unfilled tag from the archery hunting I did in September so I went back into the same area for the opener on the rifle hunt and unbelievably found this bull in velvet still.

Great bull, crazy he is still in velvet. any thing look wrong with his nuts?

My neighbor seen a buck a few houses down last week that was still in velvet too? He said it looked normal and had a decent typical rack.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-13 AT 10:27AM (MST)[p]No, the testicles were normal as far as I could tell. I talked to a Wyoming wildlife biologist and he suggested the same thing also. He said that it is more common in deer. The other thing he said it might be is a tumor in the pituitary gland or possibly he had both male and female sex organs. ie. the ovaries did not fully develop. Not sure what it is but it is a trophy of a lifetime as far as I am concerned. I have never seen one like this in October before, much less have an opportunity to actually harvest one. The taxidermist I took it to said that in 20 years and thousands of elk mounts he has never seen one in full velvet.

That thing is awesome Lance !!!

Make sure to let me know when you get him back. I'd love to see that one when it's mounted up.

Cheers,
Pete

Sweet. That's the second bull this year that has been shot in velvet I have seen this year in wyo plus one that came from the Missouri breaks. crazy stuff

I seen 2 PISSCUTTER Bucks this evening at 10,000 ft that were together & Both were Full Velvet!

I see quite a few Bucks in the Book Cliffs that are Full velvet late in to the year, but South Slopers?

I used to know of places worth Hiking in to for Elk & Deer!
Thanks to Illegal Bastards & the USFS not enforcing Rules you can Zing in to them Places on Wheelers now & not see a Damn thing!
But by GAWD it don't take long for them U-Tards to get there with all the Unethical BS and the New Technology!

I did not have it tested for CWD. I had talked to a wildlife biologist and he never suggested that or said that CWD could be a cause. Have you heard of that being a possible cause of velvet antlers like this?

No, it just looked like he was a little emaciated. Maybe its the angle the of the picture or the way he is laying. Still a great bull.
