Wasatch Early Bull Elk

Very good video, Well done.
And congrats on a great bull!

I am curious though as to how many cows you observed
during all this filming?

We seem to have a 'cow shortage' problem on the Wasatch,
I'd love to hear your opinion on this issue?

Thanks Guys! It's the first real hunting video I've put together. I feel it's a good start.

Goofyelk I honestly spent 65+ days living with the Elk as I was scouting, hunting and guiding clients! I know that we didn't see over 200 different cows all year. The biggest herds that I've seen this year where in hobble creek and on a CWMU out by Red Creek (that's off the Wasatch unit). I'm pretty disappointed with the way we are managing the Wasatch Elk herd. I feel that the herd objective numbers are way below a number we need to have a thriving herd.

Thanks for sharing the video. It looks like you had found a lot of good bulls before your hunt. Cool bull you shot,
Congrats!

Thanks for the response Bryce....

You and I are on the same page,
As I'm very disappointed as-well with the Wasatch elk management.

Sad to see such a great resource reduced to what it is now.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-16 AT 09:21AM (MST)[p]It is sad to see goofelk! We have watched the unit go down hill since 2006. In ten years a lot has changed, with the recent cow slaughter likely being the last straw. Our herd is in trouble If they don't get the objective numbers raised. It will be nothing more than a glorified general season unit within a few short years!

I spent a lot of time on the wasatch this past year and seen alot of the same. Cow numbers were way down this unit is in some big trouble in the next few years.

No joke. Compared to many other units and even other states I think Wasatch great elk hunt.
You can argue management, tag numbers, cow herd etc. But the terrain on the Wasatch will always allow some great bulls to survive.
Is it the best, no. Is it a great elk hunt, I think so.

We are definitely spoiled in Utah when it comes to LE units. For a lot of states, chasing 300-320 bulls each day with a chance at a 350+ bull would be the absolute best unit they have. That is what the Wasatch is.

I would concur the Wasatch is a "great" unit. This video showed some awesome bulls. I could watch this video over and over again. I love elk!

Goof, I've been on the Wasatch the last 3 years. Two of them on LE muzzy tags and last year for deer and a cow in October.

Thanks guys! I Can't wait to see what bulls made it through the year. If anyone draws the tag and needs help PM me on here I'd love to help you out!

MuleyCreek,

Congrats on a nice bull. I just watched your video and recognized your bull. He's definitely a unique one. I watched him at close range one morning last year for awhile as he fed with a group of four other bulls. I have a few video clips of him you might enjoy. Let me know if you're interested...

I drew a muzzleloader tag this year. I am beyond pumped.
I have not missed a day on the treadmill since finding out last week. I sent you a PM.
Great video I can't wait to make my own this year.
