Col. Unit 62

LAST EDITED ON Aug-20-08 AT 08:24PM (MST)[p]Dang, such a dilemma! I don't live up there no more but I still like to hunt it so, , , , third season rifle? Stay down in the cedars and sage and BE PICKY!
I'm not gonna be specific cause there is enough pressure up there as it is. Hunt LOW, hope for weather up to, and during, the season, and be patient! It is not a question IF you get one, it is how big can you hold out for?
Get an Uncomphagre National Forest map, and look at the roads within ten-15 miles of highway 50. No need to worry about private land, just pay attention to the map, hunt the public ground, pay attention to the sign you see (few tracks, few deer) and be willing to keep looking.
That is an awesome hunt!
Good luck and post the pics when you get back.

Check with me before you go I am headed out to 62 for three weeks of archery hunting.Leaving sept5 and will be home oct 10-11th.I will tell you what I know, I have hunted this unit for the last 6 years.

Hey man! I noticed that you have been hunting 62 for the last several years... I have a 3rd season tag out there and I dont really know the area all that well. I have a really good tag this year in Utah so I have been spending most of my time scouting for that hunt. But I have done some research and heard of a few general areas to go, but I was wondering if you have any specifics that you would be willing to share... I am the kind of guys that will go off on my own 10 miles off the roads if I have to and glass glass glass... Is this a area where I can do that? Is it usually better in the hight plateaus or down those deep canyons?? Or is it usually better in the low brush?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
