My '08 Meat Buck

I must have done something wrong the first time so I will try it again.

Here is my '08 buck, he is not the biggest rack I have ever seen, but he is not bad. The thing that got me on him was how big his body was.

He is a 24" 4x4, but he is a pig of a deer.

The taxidermiest that looked at him said that he had to be over 200lbs field dressed. He said just looking at the deer I would have thought the horns would have been 2 times as big. When I cut him off the bone there was over 2 inches of fat on its back. He had been living in the sage brush (5-6 feet tall) in the middle of the valley about 200 yards from the hey and alfalfa fields. I am going to have to thank the farmer for feeding him so well.

My 10 year old boy was with me and said, "Dad, that was so cool. That is the biggest deer I have ever seen dead."

We sure had a great time.

Jeff congratulations, that's a buck to be proud of especially when your kid is with you! My 6 year old daughter thinks its the coolest thing in the world to watch me harvest a buck, she even yells at me when I hunt without her. I think the look on our face when they. Shoot there first deer will be bigger than the look on there's when they watched us. Keep taking him and teachin him the ropes. Again congratulations!

Man that thing is a HOG! Congrats! I'm jealous that you can take your son, I still have a few years to wait as he is only 10mo old. Great deer!

I actually have 4 boys and they all love to hunt. The oldest is 10 and he was with me. The others are 8, he went out that morning with us but decided to stay and play with his cousins that afternoon, he was pretty mad at himself for not going. Then I have a 5 year old and he was begging me to take him with me that afternoon, I really should have. And my last boy is 2 and he shoots deer with his toy guns on the TV all the time.

I am excited for our future of hunting in our family.

And I am excited to eat my new backstraps.

Nice "Meat" buck! I can't wait until my boy is old enough to go out with me, he's 2 1/2. I am going to take him out with me next year a few times on the archery hunt.

Thanks guys, we sure had a good time my boy and I. My other boy sure is mad at himself for not comming out with us.

We were really lucky. This big meat buck was living only a few hundred yards from the hay fields and we found a road that the farmer used to get around his fields that was only a few hundred feet from where the buck went down. That 200 feet was a real pain trying to get that buck through when the sage brush is 5 feet tall and think. I am glad we didn't have to pack him all the way out, that would have taken 4 guys to fight the deer and the sage brush.

Side note. No, Sasquatch was not flying in a chute plane guiding me into the buck with his radio GPS unit. It was all me and my boy.

Great Buck. He really has a great lookin cape on him. Awsome your boy was there with you, my son is 2 I have taken him with me 3 times, but he doesnt understand yet.I cant wait till he does.
