Anyone know anything about a hunter named Ray Cross? I recieved some pictures of his collection of mule deer and they are all hogs!

You sure about the first name of RAY?? There is another CROSS from Idaho that has taken some great bucks and is a member here.

Brian

That's what it says with all the pictures I recieved. My buddy who sent me the pictures has an old friend named Larry Cross from Idaho.

Larry Cross was a guide up in Idaho some years now, big buck hunter for sure alls I know and have met him once back in the 90's

Larry Cross.
He went to school with my late brother in law down here in Cali.
He lived up in the hills near Lake Berryessa and cut his teeth on Coastal Blacktails.
He was living the life.
That is for sure.

Here are some of his bucks that he took himself or guided to.

jesus h. the ears on that buck in the 2nd pic are freaking huge....nice trash on that heavy buck.

Width isnt everything, its the ONLY thing.

There is a guy named Ray Cross that has a collection of 10-20 trophy heads. He himself only harvested one, but hes bought and collected the rest. It is by a very impressive collection, he takes it around to sportsmans shows and what not.

Ok this is the only picture I recieved with a person in it.

I know he's not holding it the correct way for the photo. Could be photo shop don't know don't care......

But even hunt-rez would be impressed at the mass on that sucker!!!!!!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-23-09 AT 06:24PM (MST)[p]I have held this rack in my hands and you cant believe how heavy it is.....Hard to imagine a deer walking around with that much weight on its head. I don't know Ray, but I've heard his name come up many times by Mule deer enthusiasts. Think he's killed and helped others kill some huge bucks in his day.........

omfg!!!!!!!! that's a hawg and a half..the mass is unreal. my shorts just got tighter.
Width isnt everything, its the ONLY thing.

Ray lives in Fruitland Id. he has killed his share and helped others and he does have this collection that he travels with to sport show's ....most bucks are idaho bucks many being killed locally ...but years ago...... he can tell you some stories!!!!!!!!

Ray's collection was sold this year to a gentleman in Utah. I believe that he (Ray Cross) only keep two of the heads that he personaly harvested. I don't know the guy in Utah, but the gentleman who set up the sell of the heads is from Payette Id. His name is Bill Lancaster, he also got 2 or 3 of the heads out of the collection. I think it is a shame that the heads got sold out of state. They should have stayed here in Idaho where they belong. Just my two cents.

Steve

My dear Lord!!! Some of those bucks are just not fair.

Every time I see old photos of giant bucks like this it drives home the sad truth that I definitely grew up in the wrong era.

I'm working on two right now! They should be out by the first of March of there shortly after. They will have a different title, which is not set in stone yet, but I will keep you posted.

Steve

It is indeed ray cross, I have sat in his house in fruitland and seen many of those heads, like others have said he has only personally shot a few the rest were collected, if its true bill lancaster ended up with some of these heads, I know him personally also, hes a world class taxidermist and master scuplture of research mankins. I'm sure they will be in good hands and displayed somewhere.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-25-09 AT 12:11PM (MST)[p]There are two Bill Lancasters. One who is a taxidermist and one who is an antler broker. They are not the same person! The antler broker is the person who made the transaction and is getting a few of the heads not the sculptor slash taxidermist.

How many heads are actually stating in Idaho. I don't really know, Last I heard, and yes it is hearsay, Billy only had three of the heads. He was going to try and buy a few more from the guy as he got the money. I also heard that he hasn't paid in full for the ones he has. It's going to be hard to buy more when you haven't paid for the ones you've already got. This info came from one of his good friends (supposadly one of his good friends). By the way all that I said was that the collection deserved to stay in Idaho where the bucks were taken. Sounds like you have more details about the whole transaction. I would love to here what is really going on.

I hope you are right and most are staying Idaho.

Steve

That is the second best collection of big muleys that i have ever seen.
Very Very impressive to see them all together in one place.
Thanx for postin the pics.

He has a little write up in the book Idahos greatest mule deer there are pictures of all of his bucks he owned just as many as cabelas and one other large collector of Idahos largest.I work with rays nephew and he told me his uncle sold his collection, we were planning a trip up there to look at them but i guess its to late.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE PICS OF MY DEER, AND YES I AM THE ACTUAL OWNER OF THE INFAMOUS RAY CROSS MULE DEER COLLECTION?? I DON'T REALLY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS GETTING ON HERE AND PUBLISHING RUMORS AND HERESAY ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK YOU MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, SO I WILL CLEAR THE AIR AND SET YOUR MINDS AT EASE SINCE IT IS SO INTERESTING TO YOU ALL!! EVEN THOUGH IT REALLY IS NO ONES BUSINESS!! MY PARTNER AND I BOUGHT THIS COLLECTION IN JULY, WE EACH HAVE HALF IN OUR POSSESION. ALOT OF THE DEER CAME FROM IDAHO, SOME CAME FROM OTHER STATES. WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM IS WHATEVER WE CHOOSE TO DO WITH THEM, SIMPLE AS THAT!! I LOVE BIG DEER AND MY PARTNER DOES TOO SO DON'T FRET ANY LONGER THEY WILL BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF!! IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER RUMORS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS, ASK THEM OF THE HORSES MOUTH, BUCKHUNR

STEVE, FOR BEING A BIG MULE DEER GUY YOU SURE HAVE YOUR FACTS SCREWED UP ON THIS ONE!! IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON SO BAD WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST CALL AND ASK OR BETTER YET JUST ASK ME IN PERSON LAST WEEK IN UTAH WHEN YOU SAW ME!! I'M NOT AN ANTLER BROKER I'M A COLLECTOR, YOU KNOW BETTER THAN THAT!! I DIDN'T ONLY GET 1 OR 2 HEADS EITHER, I GOT 15, IMAGINE THE COLLECTION I HAVE NOW!! DON'T GET ON HERE AND ACT LIKE A LITTLE GIRL LIKE SOME OF THESE GUYS DO PLEASE!! YOU LITTLE GIRLS OUT THERE KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE TOO SO DON'T ACT LIKE YOU DON'T!! BUCKHUNR

I'M NOT SURE WHO YOU ARE, BUT THANKS FOR SPEAKING A LITTLE TRUTH ON THIS SUBJECT!! IF THERE ARE ANY MORE ?? JUST ASK THE BUCKHUNR

Enable that profile there bukhunr and maybe some of that stuff your spewin will be a little more credible. IF these are yours (posession only because your definately NOT the shooter) you should understand that those pictures were taken before you bought them. Therefore the pictures are NOT yours and whomever took them owns them and can do "whatever they please" with them. Calm down a little and enjoy looking at those beautiful muleys on your wall. I do have to say that I would be a little more impressed if they were hanging on the wall of somebody that actually shot them. But that's just my oppinion.

It's always an adventure!!!

I enjoyed looking at the big muleys but if you are the owner, why are you being so "RUDE"! Buying a collection of mounts doesn't entitle you to be an A$$!!!!!!!!
David

Seeing all those big bucks reminds me that in this day an age and the advancement of equipment not to many bucks can reach that kind of potential. The trophy mule deer hunter has evolved into a well oiled killing machine.

I'M NOT TRYING TO BE AN A$$, i just don't appreciate people starting rumors about something they have no knowledge about!! if you aren't one of the people i was referring to you shouldn't have anything to worry about. buckhunr

I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO BELIEVE ANYTHING ABOUT MY CREDIBILITY, YOU CAN BELIEVE WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE, AND FOR THE PICS NOT BEING MINE THEY ARE IN FACT MY PARTNERS AND MINE. THEY WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE STROWN ALL OVER THE INTERNET SO A BUNCH OF GUYS COULD START A GOSSIP COLUMN!! AS FOR THE GUYS THAT KILLED THEM, WELL THEY ARE ALL DEAD!! I WISH I COULD SAY I KILLED EVEN ONE OF THEM BUT I CAN'T. I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT SHOOTING ANY OF THEM DID I??

Sounds like you better have a talk with your "buddy". If you don't want them circulating or have to ask how they got on here in this post, then you better talk to your "buddy". It's unfortunate that rumors are spread but some can be avoided with a little common sense. In this day and age, if you don't want pictures out there on the WWW you better make sure YOU have control of the photos. Enough said.

It's always an adventure!!!

Anyone heard of Roy Eastlick? He's got 2- 200" plus NET typicals in the record book. Shot in '74, and '75 in unit 22 near Cuprum I believe. Perhaps near the peacock mines. We tried to track him down a few times and see the racks, He lives in Council I think. 2-200" net typicals in consecutive years from the same area-- What A Story That Would Be!!!

Billy (Buckhunr)

Like I said, it was hearsay. I'm glad you got 15 of the heads. I know it's none of my business, but when I said you only had three of the heads, I was referring to the ones that you have paid for. Maybe I'm wrong, like I said I heard it second hand from one of your friends, maybe you have paid for them in full and he is trying to stir the pot. I hope I'm wrong and they do stay here in Idaho. I'm not trying to slam you by any means, my whole point was that the heads should have stayed in Idaho. I wish you could have bought them all! If you have fifteen of them that's great. I'm sure your collection is grand. I wouldn't mind having a few of those heads myself, but I would have kept them in Idaho as an all Idaho collection. You can call yourself a collector if that sounds better than broker, but they are the same! They both buy and sell antlers. By the way, do you still have my single? I would have loved to set and chat with you for a while, but you were busy with Rusty and I only had a couple of hours to get two days worth of business done. That sure was one heck of a buck you had with you on Thursday.

Steve

feel free to set me straight, but you don't have to do it with your caps lock on! ;)
